SOLVED. Girl during summer with Lavender? [s]

The cover is an illustration of a girl sitting under a tree on top of a hill. I think the main character stays with an old lady named Lavender over the summer and there is a funeral in the middle of the story and in the end a dog gets swept away in a flood and never comes back... Don't remember anything else :(
