ABANDONED. A book with a girl named Gemma (not the name of the main character)

I'm sad to say I remember very little about this book. All I remember is that I read it back in the mid-90s, that it was a children's/young adult book geared towards girls and one chapter where the characters were having a dinner party. There was a girl named Gemma, I believe, and she was going to bake and orange cake while another girl made macaroni and cheese. It seemed pretty old, most likely from the 50s or the 60s.

I apologize for not being able to describe this one better, my memory is very fuzzy.

I probably should have mentioned Gemma isn't the main character. At least, I don't think she is. Either way this series doesn't ring a bell, sorry.
