HAHAHA!! This gave me a huge belly laugh!! Great ideas, Oda. The only problem is here in the states, if its across town, we drive to it. We are way more spread out here than it is in Europe. I do walk to my library in the seasonal months, though, as its about 6 blocks away from my house :) I do have one bookstore in town I could walk to, its about 10 blocks away. The rest are all in another town, about 9 miles away! And many of us do our shopping online, as its just easier, and usually cheaper.

I love the idea of dancing for joy and yelling at the characters when they act stupid, though!! I could see myself doing that ;)

Dancing and yelling at characters... Yup. This I do!! ;-D

Jenny:
You..dont dance for joy alredy? I`ve been doing that all my life. If a books ends with happy scenes after lots of struggles, like graceling I tend to swing about with the book in my hand.

message 1254: by Irene (new)

Irene (raenne) I'll have to start dancing with my books too! lol

message 1255: by Victoria (new)

Victoria Zigler (toriz) | 4472 comments No dancing here. But plenty of yelling at characters who do stupid things, yelling at authors who kill characters I love (while crying for the loss of the character in question) and excited squealing when good things happen in the book I'm reading.

It could still work, you could park a bit away from the bookstore so you would have to walk.

Irene (raenne) Ugh. I didn't like her. I really didn't. :)

I just finished my bachelor thesis. Like right now!! :D Yay!!
But, uhm... Would anyone be so kind to help me out with my abstract? It has to be in English and since I'm not native, I just want to correct the mistakes that's in there (we're talking grammar and spelling). It's just 146 words :)

message 1263: by Irene (new)

Irene (raenne) @Oda - Well, because it's my bachelor thesis. It's the same with the master thesis. All other papers can have Danish abstracts. Just the way it is I suppose. Not much of an explanation, but that's all I got :P

@Aliza - Oh! Good luck! :D What are you writing about?

@Brigid - Thank you! Will do so asap! :)

I have to check that out. Les Mis is my favorite, followed by Rent, then Phantom, and I recently saw The Book of Mormon, which was so un-PC, but hilarious. I'm hearing rave things about Hamilton.

Today at work, our company brought in an ice cream truck (like the kind for kids in neighborhoods) into the parking lot, and paid for all employees and residents to each get an ice cream!! It was fun :) An extra little fun break for us!

Marla | 366 comments Happy Day, Oda! A day with friends is the perfect way to celebrate.

LOL, I know that I'm a mess, but I don't like cake and I'm lactose intolerant so I'm not an ice cream fan. My birthday always falls during lent and I give up potato chips and chocolate each year, so my friends have a tough time giving me treats. Ummm...pie?!

Jenny, that was sweet (pun intended) to get an ice cream treat. (Ice cream trucks make me think of child abductors...I read too many scary books?! And there was that Charmed episode...) I don't eat it much but I love the IDEA of ice cream!

You are, Oda. Wish I'd been so restrained at the same age. Though can't get away with that nowadays. Ashamed to admit I did once waste a perfectly good chocolate cake, most of which ended up on a friend's face & over her ceiling. But that's another story ;)

If I'm not on as often as normal right now, it's because I'm on vacation and doing a month long road trip playing "Thelma and Louise" (without the cliff jump) with my good friend Kay!

We're hitting every place possible in California along Hwy 1 and then some. Then we'll hit a bunch of Arizona spots! Lots and lots of traveling and driving so hopefully lots of audiobooks, but not too much time to jump online.

We started Leg 1 of our trip by driving from Phoenix to Tucson and going to the Arizona-Sonoran Desert Museum. I took Jenny and her mom there in March and it was fabulous. It was much HOTTER this time, but I had a umbrella this time to keep the sun off. Sooooooo beautiful!

Then we drove to San Diego and spent the 4th of July at SeaWorld. It was fantastic. SeaWorld has a fireworks show every night but they really outdid themselves tonight for the 4th of July and this was probably the best Independence Day I've ever had!

Tomorrow we are driving across the border to Tijuana, Mexico for a couple hours and then spending the rest of the day at the beach in San Diego.

I'll pop on every so often (when I can find WiFi) to give an update on my traveling adventure! ;)

Yeah. There are all sorts of pirate themed activities, and a lot of the people who go dress up as pirates. This year they're even more excited about it, because the peer recently re-opened, so they get to do some of the stuff actually on the peer for the first time in several years. Should be fun!

Is it because of some pirate history there or was it just some marketing plot from a big company that escalated?

message 1297: by [deleted user] (new)

I live in the capital now so there are different stuff most weeks but havent heard of a pirate day no.
there is the day in november where cinemas are half off, tickets, sweets++ and usually movies from the last 6-8 months are shown not just the recent ones. that is national though.

message 1298: by Victoria (last edited Jul 05, 2016 04:39AM) (new)

Victoria Zigler (toriz) | 4472 comments I'm actually not too sure how it got started, to be honest. There's always a lot of stuff about pirates mentioned around the English coastline though, especially to the South, and I live in Hastings, which is on the South-East coast of England (well, I actually live in the next town, but they're so closely intertwined it doesn't make much difference which I say). When it comes to the pirate day celebrations, one thing I do know though is that every year we try to break the record for the most people in pirate costumes in one location at any given time. A couple of years ago, we either beat it, or came close to doing so... I'd have to look it up to be sure which it was.

The celebration that's a big part of the town's history comes in October here, and that's likely to be a big one this year too, because it's the 950th anniversary of The Battle Of Hastings this year. I'm hoping to go to some of the celebrations for that too. Plus, I'm actually writing a story based on the battle to release on the day that's the anniversary of when the battle took place. But, like I said, that's not until October.

americans, who are the canadians and whose the brits in the group.) Heard of Hastings off course(poirot),lucky you coming from such a historical place.
