Irene (raenne) So what are you in the mood for then? :)

Kaylani (cityeclectics) | 297 comments I have over 1,000 unread kindle books....
And Over 200 unread physical books.

Doesn't stop me from buying more. That said, I generally buy books at thrift stores for super cheap and almost never pay more than $3 for 1 book. The exception lately was I bought #2 and #3 in the chaos walking trilogy by patrick ness for $7.12.

But my other book purchase this month was 17 books for $5.80 so I think it evens out :P

Victoria Zigler (toriz) | 4472 comments I've got several hundred unread Kindle books. I'm not sure exactly how many. I just buy from the list of books I want when I have the money, and read them one after another in whatever order I feel like doing (sometimes this means I'll look for a spacific title to read, other times I'll just scroll through my list of books until one jumps out and says "read me" or just randomly pick the first unread one my finger lands on).

I don't have any unread audiobooks right now. If I did though, I'd grab whichever was on top and start listening (new additions to my audio library get put to the bottom of any "to-read" pile I have for audiobooks, so the top one is usually the one that's been waiting to be listened to longest).

If I had the money, I'd buy all the books on my list of books I want, and then I'd only have to worry about finding time to read them all... I'd certainly do my very best!

message 1012: by Irene (new)

Irene (raenne) I decided on three books for about £1.75 and paid £14 for shipping...... I hate shipping! Still cheaper than danish books though which are like £30 each. :(

I have no idea about my Kindle books, I just know I have a ton lol :D

message 1013: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ | 738 comments Gosh I have so many books I've bought that I haven't read. I always shop for used books and buy a ton and then it takes me forever to actually read them. I have some books I bought like 5 years ago that I still haven't read. >.<

message 1014: by Kaylani (new)

Kaylani (cityeclectics) | 297 comments I stalk kindle deal sites. There are a lot of books that are free for only a few days or that are on really big sale for a short period of time. I probably get at least 2-3 new free books a day. Hoarding ebooks is super easy when you've only paid for like... 100 of them. XD

message 1015: by Victoria (new)

Victoria Zigler (toriz) | 4472 comments A lot of my eBook collection is made up of ones I got free too.

Kaylani (cityeclectics) | 297 comments I likely need to stop buying books for a while too. Its one of my coping mechanisms for when I get really stressed though. Go spend 2-3 dollars on books. Feel less stressed, get things done. heh.

Yesterday was a high stress day. but $4.00 for 20 books isn't bad. haha

Yeah, that is a good deal.

I do the same thing... Feel stressed or sad, buy books, feel better. It's the only kind of retail therapy I enjoy.

I buy books whether I'm stressed, happy, sad, angry, etc... ;-D

And then I get stressed because I have too many books and not enough time to read! ;) And because I'm stressed, I'll go buy books to feel better. Bwhahahah! It's a never ending cycle!!

message 1036: by Kaylani (new)

Kaylani (cityeclectics) | 297 comments I used to fall under the clinical hoarder definition.

There are few things I will let myself buy when I'm upset unless they are on my to-get list anyways. Clothes and books are on that list, but I have much stricter guidelines for both now.

message 1037: by Jenny, Always smiling! :-D (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 12932 comments Mod
I'm sure I fall under the hoarder definition--at least for books and art & craft supplies!!!

I used to be bad at hoarding clothes and shoes, too, but I've been cleaning out my closet the last few years (because of moving) and its under much better control now. My rule, is if I haven't worn it at all in the last year, it goes (unless its something I'm keeping for sentimental reasons--but only have a few of those).

I'll be cleaning out my closet again, soon, and buying a basically new wardrobe--because I've now lost 30 lbs and nothing fits!!! LOL That's a GOOD reason to buy more clothes :)

Thanks Karen! I am very proud of myself. Now to "firm and tone" all the flabby skin, and I'll be good :)

message 1042: by Kaylani (new)

Kaylani (cityeclectics) | 297 comments Yeah. 3 of my old apartments were reminiscent of things on hoarders (the tv show about people who are living in filth) and I got a lot of help for it.

I don't use the term lightly. Collections can get out of control but hoarding is always out of control in my opinion.

I've gotten a lot better and my apartment isn't gross anymore. cluttered and disorganized yes, but not gross and I do regularly go through and get rid of things.

That said.. congrats on the weight loss Jenny! :) I'm hoping that with the strengthening program for my muscular dystrophy I will be able to do a bit more exercise and drop some weight. I'd like to drop minimum of 50lbs and keep it off (even with my normal fluctuations of around ~20 pounds)

message 1043: by Irene (new)

Irene (raenne) Kaylani, I'm glad you feel better now. Must feel incredibly nice!

Jenny, good job! :) I used to be rather skinny, but this last year I've gained a lot of weight and looks chubby when compared to before :/ I guess it has to do with getting older maybe, because I eat what I used to and didn't exercise. I've taken up running now though. :) Think I need a diet as well...

I don't know what to take pictures of for instagram :/ Trying to build up a bookstagram account

Congrats on the 30 lbs. That's no small task. Can you feel it? I find I feel even 5 lbs, so I can only imagine the 30.

Thanks everyone!

Yes, Rebecca, I can definitely feel it! I have even more energy now!

Irene--take pics of what your currently reading, any book hauls, your bookshelves--maybe picks of some of your favorite books? If you have any other bookish "stuff"--like Tshirts, swag, posters, etc? Hope that helps :)

Kaylani (cityeclectics) | 297 comments I GOT MY LIBRARY FINES WAIVED!

There were $149.40 left and a note from my case worker and some medical info was enough to prove that it was a circumstance that fit the criteria to get them wavied :D

So I have 3 books from the library and can loan from the ebook library now. BOOKS! All the books! :)
