Victoria Zigler (toriz) | 4472 comments So jealous of those of you with snow. Yeah, I know snow isn't all fun, but when you don't get much of it - like I don't - you can't help wanting it anyway!

I'm all for people having the freedom to follow any religion they want, but wish they'd be consistent.

What I mean by that is... Well, what that person just did... Breaking one of the ten commandments by stealing someone else's artwork, then quoting bits of the bible as an excuse why they should be forgiven.

People should practice what they preach.

I want people to be tolerant of my beliefs, and accept my chosen path, and in return I try to do the same for them. But I can't help feeling annoyed when people only hold firm to the beliefs of their chosen religion when it suits them, and ignore them the rest of the time.

Marla | 366 comments Storm that's terrible. My mother used to tell us that copying was the sincerest form of flattery and we would tell her that they were annoying and needed to get an original thought of their own! I still tell my kids the same thing, but inside, I don't blame their resentment at all.

Snowing here. Darn, all activities are cancelled and I just sat around, read, played on GoodReads and watched the Super Bowl game and commercials.

Storm Arashi (stormarashi) | 1130 comments Victoria - Agreed, I try to have respect for every religion, since that's just how I was brought up but I see bringing the Bible into an argument as just being petty.

Marla - My mom actually said recently when I had my work stolen (someone I had blocked thought they'd be sneaky and repost my work so they could "look at it always" (creepy enough) "Someone should tell them to get off the site and get a real idea in their head." It can be frustrating for sure. >_<;; I know not everything I do will be totally original but I would like people to just respect my work. She had taken one of my characters I had made and tried to claim they were hers even giving a bogus backstory (that didn't match up with the real backstory of said character) my friend got her to remove it but I've learned letting thieves back into my circle has never ended well.

And snow is still coming down here. We're getting six inches

Stealing anyone's piece of work, no matter what it is is just HORRIBLE and PETTY, and they will get what's coming to them!

I'm so sorry, Storm :(

There is a huge difference between actually claiming someone else's art as their own to using it for inspiration. I use other people's art as inspiration all the time, but if I do, I let them know or credit them in some way when I post it. But it is my own art and looks completely different, I just used their idea, or a part of their idea and made it my own.

But flat out STEALING is just WRONG.

Victoria, I agree with thoughts on religion completely. Talk about being hyprocritical! I can't stand people who call themselves "Christians" because they go to church every Sunday and quote the Bible, but they treat others like dirt. Being a Christian means following Jesus's teachings. His biggest one is "Love your nieghbor as you'd love yourself" , NOT "Steal others work" DUH. Some people are so dumb!

Okay, rant over :)

Hey,guys.

Just adding to the weather debate by saying its going to be a hurrican here. Am inside but still, heard the electricity might go. An island Close to here was evacuated. An Whole island.it was a small island but still, so surreal.

message 664: by Marla (last edited Feb 07, 2015 08:51AM) (new)

Marla | 366 comments My advice toward hurricanes and blizzards...stay safe! do NOT stay if they tell you to evacuate and do NOT go out if they tell you to stay at home! Only go out if you need to...Why do people think it doesn't apply to them?! Yes, that means you, to the guy going 60 mph down the snow packed roads on Thursday in a orange sedan while all the rest of us were going 40 mph and most of us were in 4WD vehicles! He almost slid into another vehicle when he had to stop at a light.

I think because it is so difficult to predict weather, people assume they are going to get it wrong, but sometimes, they are actually correct. My friend lives in Boston and though they didn't get the 30" predicted in 24 hours last week, they got 28.5" in 31 hours.

But remember people (not you people, but those complainers/idiots out there esp on TV) it's an average guess, so while NY only got 8" instead of 20 inches, they could've gotten 32"!!!

Okay, getting off my soapbox. I think part of my fears stem from growing up in a tropical climate and also since I have a cautious, rule-abiding nature.

Victoria Zigler (toriz) | 4472 comments I "sort of" got snow a couple of days ago. It tried to snow on Thursday, though it only managed a short five minute flurry of snowflakes, and when it tried again later it was closer to sleet than snow (and even that didn't last long).

Well, it's better than nothing.

Thinking the worst of it is elsewhere. I went a little trip earlier to the store(bought choclate) it was no problem. The Power went out for 10 Seconds and then came back on. Heard that the worst of it is supposed to be today and today is soon over(its evening here)so am fine really.

Victoria Zigler (toriz) | 4472 comments Just a heads up... I'm moving some time in the next few weeks, and will probably be offline for a couple of days around the move.

The landlord for the place we're currently in died a few months back, and the place has been sold. The new owners are really nice; even brought us some fancy chocolates. But they want to live in the whole building, so we can't stay.

Victoria Zigler (toriz) | 4472 comments Thanks, Marla!

The next couple of weeks are going to be crazy! We only found out the place was to be sold right on top of Christmas - I mean, literally; we got the official letter about it Christmas Eve, though we had been told verbally about two weeks before - and it took us until Friday to find somewhere to move to, and we don't get the keys for the place until this coming Friday. But since we're supposed to be out of this place in three weeks, we need to get everything arranged as quick as possible.

Yeah, it is! But there's not much we can do about it. It didn't help that just about everything's closed here between Christmas and the New Year, and for most of the first week of January, so we lost about two weeks of possible property searching time.

Anyway, we're mostly packed, since at least we were able to make a start on that; just a few last minute bits to pack, really. But until we've signed the paperwork and have the keys, we can't arrange the removal truck, nor the transfer of the phone and internet, nor... Well, you get the idea!

I tell you what though, I'll be glad when it's over... And not just because I'll be able to buy books again, LOL!

Oh, and on top of this, I'm STILL waiting for the appointment to get my tooth sorted, so I'm still dealing with toothache.

Ah well... It will all work out in the end; things usually do! And at least I will get a bit of time for myself during the move, since I volunteered to be the one to sleep on the floor of the new place for a night so we could move the rodent gang in the day before the truck comes (thought it would be easier on them not to be involved in the chaos of loading a removal truck, but don't want to leave them there alone that first night). I'm taking my laptop and Kindle, so I can spend the evening reading and writing (if I don't just curl up for a long nap that is, LOL!)

But I won't be online at all on the 24th, 25th, and 26th of February.

In theory I'll be back online properly on the 27th, but this is assuming the phone and internet switch over goes smoothly on the 26th; it's happening "any time between 8:00 am and midnight" on the 26th. If it doesn't, then I'll be back online as soon as it can be sorted.

Kimberly | 35 comments Hi yall!! I am just now joining this thread, thought I would pop in and say Hi and hope to get to know some more people here! Man, we have been hit with snow big time here in Virginia. About a foot of snow out, been shoveling and shoveling, till I have blisters on my hands! I love winter but when you start getting busted pipes or hands that hurt from shoveling, its time to throw in the towel lol. Have you all looked at a picture of the grass in Summer(while its winter) and been amazed at how green it is, it almost looks fake. The world is a wonderful place! Tootaloo everybody!!

message 688: by Victoria (new)

Victoria Zigler (toriz) | 4472 comments Well, if you haven't noticed... I'm back!

I've had internet since this afternoon, but the phone doesn't work yet... I think there's a delay in that because of us taking our old number with us, and having the line cut off there the same day as it goes on here. The deadline for it all being sorted is midnight, so we'll see what happens when we get the other side of midnight.

I twisted my knee, and hubby shipped me and the rodent gang over early to make me rest it. The funny thing is, I didn't do it on the three flights of stairs up to our new apartment, or the one up to street level from our old place. Nope! I did it when we went to town to sort out some change of address stuff... In a place where there were three lousy steps! Four flights of stairs I'd been going up and down at least once a day for four days at that point, and it's three little steps that got me! I can't help laughing about it; despite the fact it meant I wasn't in a position to help much with the last part of the move. Mind you, I probably couldn't have helped all that much come the end anyway. But, anyway, the rodent gang and I came over early, so I had less internet time in this past week than planned, and only came on every couple of days to check for anything important someone may have sent me.

Other than the issue with my knee, the move mostly went smoothly, though we got messed about a bit by the moving guys. It worked out well though, because the replacement guys were a lot cheaper.

OK, back to sorting through the 200 e-mails I had waiting in my inbox when I got online today...

Kimmy, I completely understand. I'm in Iowa, and we've had a horrendous winter, too. Not as bad as Boston or the northeast by any means, but bad enough! Mainly I'm sick of these freezing temps! Sorry about all the snow, Kimmy, and everyone else in the severe winter weather. :(

I won't complain that I had to do a Board meeting in the cold last night (66 degrees). ;) I almost had to go get a jacket to put on over my sweater. I'm sooooo bad, right? ;-P

But just think that when you guys are all enjoying your gorgeous summer weather, I'm stuck inside because of the 118 degrees outside. It's literally like sticking your head in an oven when you walk outside. It takes your breathe away. But, the good side is that we don't have to shovel snow or anything else too strenuous.

Anyway, hope that spring comes soon for all of you!!! :)

message 692: by Victoria (last edited Feb 26, 2015 05:29PM) (new)

Victoria Zigler (toriz) | 4472 comments Thanks, Jenny and Karen! Nice to know I was missed! :)

Regarding weather... I'd rather be cold than hot any day. If I ever visited Karen's neck of the woods, I'd have to do so in Winter; I'd never cope with the heat of Summer! I'm still waiting for my snow here. We had some awesome storms though. There was a big one over the weekend, and I was in the new place. Completely freaked out the rodent gang (especially Jasper, who absolutely hates even mild storms) but I thought it was cool. You see, the new place is right near the ocean, and being in a third floor apartment that close to the ocean during a storm made it possible for me to almost pretend I was in a storm at sea, while at the same time allowing me to be safe from sinking because of said storm. I know some people think I'm strange for loving storms and snow so much, but I can't help it. Actually, other than when it's too hot - which is more because I can't tolerate heat; I come out in a nasty rash when I get too hot - I like all weather. Though I do think it's a shame that my favourite kinds - storms and snow - often cause a lot of damage and accidents.
