I just wanted to share the books that many of our library staff have been reading in recent months to prepare to become Early Literacy Specialists. Starting March 1st, you'll be able to find greatly expanded programs for children ages birth to five that are specifically geared towards preparing children to enter school ready to learn to read. A list of upcoming Early Literacy programs can be found here.

Staff have been preparing for this initiative for almost a year now and have just completed training with the author of the above books herself. Our goals are to make sure every child in Anne Arundel County has the foundation they need (Print Motivation, Print Awareness, Narrative Skills, Vocabulary, Letter Knowledge and Phonological Awareness) to learn to read as they enter school. Children with this foundation will find reading easier, setting them up for a better school experience, and this will hopefully help make them lifelong readers. We're very excited to get started and hope you are too.

Now back to our regularly scheduled book talk!
