I found it really frustrating as well, I don't know if the humour is lost in translation but I just didn't find it that enjoyable. Although there are some smaller tales within the story which are actually good. I just soldiered through and was really relieved when I finished it.

And is it worth it, just soldering through it?

Well it's really up to you- as a rule I don't stop reading books until I've finished them, no matter how bad they are! If you're not enjoying it though and you don't mind giving up you could!

I opened a new post with some of the list's I would be willing to read with people...You can check if there is one among them that you are interested in..

It is definitely on my TBR list. I am signed up for two challenging reads in January, though. Moby Dick and the Nichomachean Ethics, so it may not be the best time.
Ulysses was a group challenge last Summer. I got as far as the beginning of the Oxen of the Sun episode. I have read it, or done the audio before, so I know there are some really tedious parts in the 'third half...'

What group? Is Moby Dick also a group read?

I think it is an open group: "Reading the Chunksters"
I think the plan for 2018 is to alternate 'classic chunksters' with 'contemporary chunksters,' so that Berlin Alexanderplatz would be eligible for a March read.
