Your reference to coloured/colored rings rang a bell. I knew someone else had posted something like that.
What reading level it is aimed at: YA (15-18 or 19 year olds),
MG (12-15 or so), children's chapter (8-12ish).
What the story is about: It follows a young girl who has the ability to 'see' coloured rings (which are doorways/entrances to other worlds) floating in the air around her. The colour of each ring indicates what type of world they lead to. She can step/jump/fall through the rings. I remember her being chased all the time - someone wants to use her/her abilities? There are others like her in the story I think but she is the best. I have been trying for years to find/remember this book and its sending me batty!
What the genre is: Mystery, sci-fi, fantasy.
What format is the book in: I read it as a hardback from the school library.
I would so, so, appreciate it if someone could help me find this book :)
Note: I keep thinking the title includes "ring worlds" in it - but probably doesn't as I keep being sent to Larry Niven's book "Ring World" - definitely not this book!
