I read WoK for the first time about a week ago and found the pacing in this first section very slow. I was so excited to be able to jump into this book right away but really wasn't thrilled with anything until the death(?) of Jasnah and the very end of this section. Loved the appearance of Highlord Amaram!

I just finished WoK and thought the pacing was fine. /shrug Though I will say this first book the pacing with Shallan is slower than slow. Is it bad I just reached a point where I asked myself why I cared about Shallan? I mean yeah, it sucks shes going thru a hard time. However, I didn't understand her motivations for the longest time. Once I did, I still thought it was the blah story compared to Kaladin. Everything that wasn't Kaladin wasn't interesting to me. Not at least until we find out how she fit into the whole storyline.

A lot of people seemed to feel that way about Shallan for Way of Kings for some reason. I've seen that carry over to this book as well.
Kaladin is still my favorite character, but Shallan was never someone I didn't care about. She was just more of a minor character to me until this book really flushed her out more.
I'll be curious to see if your opinion her changes by the end of this one.
Agreed, Rob. If I had to pick between the main characters, Kaladin would be my favorite, but I've always been interested in Shallan's story. Maybe because I like heists and cons and the like. :)

That being said, for me it does sound a bit silly, main reason is because the hands look exactly the same, so how can you be ashamed/aroused by looking at one, and not for the other. Just sounds illogical.
Well I have started WoR and found that it started with a bang and first part I just read in a single day, but the second interlude I am finding a bit of a drag where we have a trader Rysn and a host of new characters such as Eshonai who is a parshendi being introduced.
I have a dirty secret...When things got particularly action packed I skipped the interludes and went back and read them after the action died down :)

I always enjoyed them when I went back and read them, but I found when an interlude was injected in the middle of a cliffhanger, I wasn't in the proper mindset to appreciate them. My mindset was more like "FUUUUuuuu"!!!
Can you imagine how fat the MMPB will be?

Ya hardcover book is really beautiful.I am also gonna get WoK hardcover.
I may buy the hardcover at some point, but I really don't see myself reading it. It weights a ton! My arms will probably get tired after a few minutes of holding it.

I'm holding off buying hardcovers for now cuz I'm picky as no hell where it comes to artwork.
It irks me when I have books in a series but they don't all have the same style of artwork. Imagine having all 14 Wheel of Time books, 13 with the original artwork covers by Darrell Sweet, but then seventh happens to have this cover:

My book cover OCD gives me no peace on that matter.
Michael Whelan is the artist doing the Stormlight Archive covers, but he's an old guy. Chances are there's going to be an artist change at some point in the series, and then I'll have the same issue. But if that does occur, they'll also release a new edition of it at some point with new artwork to conform with the new artist's style of covers. That's when I'll buy em in hardcover :D For now, ebooks on release day and MMPB when they're out are fine for me. Personal ticks are a bitch sometimes.
