Okay I found a site on Wikipedia that has pictures of the various shades of brown for those of us who are writers or want to know what shade a person is when they read a book. It's pretty cool:

new_user LOL. Hair and eye color are about the most annoying things to write about because the synonyms are very few, LOL.

You're welcome. I loved looking at the different blues and greens. Now I know what words to use to say exactly what color the heroes and heroines eyes are.

new_user You know what's awesome about gems and flowers? They make great symbolism for stories. :D

Delaney J. | 8 comments Thanks for the resources.

Bookmarked them all. =]

message 15: by new_user (new)

new_user Oh, another great site for baby names is http://www.thinkbabynames.com/

They'll give you a little info on the meaning, origin, pronounciation, variants and frequency in the US, but I think the neatest tool for writers is that you can search names with a particular sound, like names ending in -en, ienne, etc. So if you have a certain sound or style in mind, or a language, if you're venturing into fantasy, it's a great resource.

Yes way!

If you click on the link that Danielle has provided and look to the left hand side, you will see Ghetto Names and when you click on it, it lists a bunch of Ghetto names.

A lot of people associate Ghetto with black people. Not all black people are from the ghetto. Many races lives in the ghetto and many races make up names for their children.

Wow. I didn't even notice that. I hope I didn't offend anyone posting that link. I was looking for a W name and found it. I didn't know about the Ghetto names section.

Danielle, you didn't offend me. It's not your fault they have a category like that. I was just surprise to see that. I can understand Italian Names, Greek Names, etc. but not Ghetto.

With Italian names or even Greek names, when you hear it, you can probably tell what kind of name it is or even may ask and get an answer: "I'm Italian or I'm Greek." But, wouldn't it seem strange for someone to answer, "I'm Ghetto."

They probably should have put created/nontraditional names as a category. I know that there are people of various ethnicities who make up names.

I make up names and I am not Ghetto.
