I'm enjoying this so far (chapter 9), but I have to agree with you, the info dumps are a bit excessive and badly disguised...

That does come back up. I don't know, this just didn't really grab me the way I expected it to.

I finished it yesterday, and I thought the ending was a tiny bit confusing...

Yep! And Timmy was a really nice character! I do hope he makes an appearance in the next book

I felt a bit sorry for him at times! I can't remember if he's in the second one, it is years since i read it.

I'm thinking of reading the sequel next month, but I'm waiting for the challenge reveal LOL
