I think marketing is more like advertising, rather than the actual act of selling something.

When used as a verb, it means advertising or promoting.

*sees a person who knows about things, gets intimidated, hides*
@Ishi i travel in bus when i have no other option. But today its okay, volvo bus and 2nd row.

Shopping is the act of buying a product. More precisely it's the transfer of ownership title from the producer to the customer.

They're two very different things.
Marketing- educating the customer about the product.
Promoting- communicating with the customer and conveying the information to them about the product.

Promotion, marketing, advertising, selling, purchasing are all different concepts.
"Educating customers about the product and persuading them to buy it."
that's promoting.
that's promoting.

Educating them about the product and persuading them is marketing.
