I buy a lot. Im a book hoarder.I usually go to BN just because its easier for me. There arent man used book store where i live.
I'm fairly lucky there's an excellent one less than a block from one of my best friends' house. Also I live in the "bible belt" of Canada so there's plenty of thrift stores around. Used book stores are great for classics I got The Picture of Dorian Gray for $2.
I get the books I read almost exclusively from the library. There isn't unlimited space on my bookshelves, so I have to be selective about the books I keep. Of the books I buy, most come from library book sales or thrift stores. The rest, I buy at Anderson's Bookshop, where I am then able to get them autographed! :-) Just today, I bought A Tale Dark & Grimm, and then attended the day's event with Adam Gidwitz. That makes the books well worth paying full price! :-)
I buy the books from my local bookstore, is a shame in my country we don't have big bookstores (there are only four yes four in the whole country) but the ones that we have are nearby so go there.I also buy online but I don't do that all the time because I get really anxious when I think that I have to wait a minimum of 2 weeks to get my hands on my books.

Personally I borrow the majority of my books, the public library network and my school library are great. I also borrow from friends, borrowed the LOTR books and The Silmarillion from one of my best friends... mostly because he was completely insulted I had never read them before.
I buy books from chain stores (chapters) when I have gift cards though I have bought my fair share at used book stores and thrift stores.
