Blog #6: Before I Fall

In pages 150-180 in Lauren Oliver's Before I Fall Samantha says, "It's hard to explain, but I'm feeling happier than I have in years, like I'm noticing everything for the first time" (153). It seems like she has appreciation for things but it shows the entitlement of people. Some people don't appreciate things until they know they are going to loose them (in her case she knew she was going to die). I feel like personally I do this a lot too because I take for granted the things I have but when I don't have them anymore I realize how good they were. Samantha is very intent on not going to the party so she convinces her friends and they decide to have a girls night in. The girls have fun all night and then it comes the time when the car crash happened. The minute it happened she closes her eyes afraid. This shows that a character that has been brave can still have points of weakness. The time goes by and she opens her eyes and realizes she did not die and did not have to wake up and relive this day again. A rush of excitement goes through her and then they receive a phone call. Juliet Sykes killed herself. Samantha is overcome with sadness and realizes that she may not have lost her life... but someone who was not supposed to ended up loosing theirs.
