Pene|ope • Temp Hyperfixation: WC & OMV (readingfever) | 1 comments I started this book a year or two ago, but didn't get very far into before it had to go back to the library. Here's what I remember:

It's a fantasy that begins with a man who is blindfolded and taken in to kneel before some sort of tyrant-type of leader. While there, he speaks the leader's true name--something that was almost impossible to find, and is forgotten as soon as it is spoken. Mild spoiler for the prologue: Speaking his name in person is supposed to give him control over the leader, (view spoiler)

If I remember right, the story may have then moved on to actually be about a girl who is searching for the leader's name as well, but I may be combining memories from another story.

I thought it was Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson, but I just checked it out, and it isn't the book I was thinking of (though I'm never opposed to anything by Brandon Sanderson). Any ideas of what book this may be called?

Try the Black Company by Glen Cook. That series has this going on in it. The Black Company is the first book in the series.

Chris Zable Tigana, by Guy Gavriel Kay, is about a tyrant who has made it impossible to speak the name of a conquered kingdom. Could that be it? http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/10...

Hm...I just looked at the preview on Amazon and it doesn't seem to start with the scene you describe. It's still a good read, though.

Penelope, are you still looking for this? Was it either of the works suggested?
