I second this.

I second this.
I read this so won't join in if it wins but it's an absolutely fantastic book and highly recommended.

I'm not sure if that counts as travel literature. If not, I nominate Between the Woods and the Water.

'The Return of a King' sounds great, but I think it might fit into a History themed group read better possibly (which there will be sometime this year for sure).
'Between the Woods' sounds just as good and clearly fits the criteria, shall we go for that one then?

I will also be happy if THE SHADOW OF THE SUN wins the poll.

Yes, I nominate Between the Woods and the Water.

I will second this, looks good, and it's in my library.

I don't see why not, Jean!

So far we have 6 great nominations, of which
The Shadow of the Sun by Ryszard Kapuściński (seconded)
Tracks by Robyn Davidson (seconded)
The Songlines by Bruce Chatwin (seconded)
Between the Woods and the Water by Patrick Leigh Fermor
A Zoo in My Luggage by Gerald Durrell
Alone on the Ice: The Greatest Survival Story in the History of Exploration by David Roberts

Patrick Leigh Fermor -

(Leslie had suggested nominating Gerald Durrell for this, and I had expressed reservations. Later I reconsidered. Since we had both thought of him, others might enjoy his work too! :)
