Thanks for the feedback. Wow - what a lot of issues over one book. I solved the problem a different way. I went to the library and signed out a paperback copy which is not a kindle book, not an e-book, not an audio book, not a large print book, not a hardcover and is over 300 pages. And I will use the ISBN to add it to the posting list. That should make it legal.

Whew! On to selecting books for other tasks. Hopefully, they will be less convoluted.

LOL. And it's not even my task, I was just helping Andy out...... ;-)

Sorry to keep you waiting, Andy and Ann! I've been on vacation with no Internet service.

As for the question, for SRC purposes hyphenated words are treated as one word. Because "old" does not stand alone, it would not work for this task.

Yes both books work.

I'm checking if these two Arabic books work for New Mexico (Land of Enchantment):
#1 Children of the Alley by Naguib Mahfouz
#2 Land of Hypocrisy/أرض النفاق by Yusuf AlSebaay/يوسف السباعي

Of course. They both meet the criteria for the task.

SthTx Dawn (dawn99) | 114 comments I wanted to read Mark Twain's The Prince and the Pauper and Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island and I saw that they were previously approved, but I'm worried that they have the children's genre on main page and have less than 300 pages..does that disqualify them for this task or do they still work? thanks..

I think if children is listed as a genre they will not work if they are less than 300 pages for a 25 point task. Sorry!

message 70: by SthTx Dawn (new)

SthTx Dawn (dawn99) | 114 comments that is what I was thinking too. I can used them for different tasks. Thanks Andy.

Dee (austhokie) | 8973 comments Dawn - check and see if they were approved as not having children in the genre thread - you may be able to use them...

I realize I approved these books, but they will NOT work because I have not specifically allowed books with the genre children on the books' main page which means according to SRC rules they must be over 300 pages if they have been listed as children's on the main page.

I'll defer to the moderators. I am not that definite about the rules though I was told that if I did not specify that I would accept children's books, they had to be 300 pages

That's exactly right, Andy. I think Dee is suggesting that perhaps "childrens" just appeared on the genre list and had been pre-approved as a book that did not list childrens as a genre. I think this is unlikely, since childrens is pretty high on the genre list, and these are generally considered to be childrens books.

Melanie (melaina) | 380 comments Great task!
I have a question.. I went ahead and read Branded by Abi Ketner (for Alaska, AK), before realizing, when I was reviewing it last night, that there's a second author! (Missy Kalicicki)... Would it still work? Thanks!

EDIT: Ugh, I just read The Last Duke by Andrea Kane (for Alaska - AK, the last frontier), thinking I was oh so smart and reading one book that fulfilled both sections... sigh So provided the first book (Branded) works for part 1, can The Last Duke work for part 2? Thank you :)

Yes coauthors are ok, just not an anthology type book with multiple authors.
