Blog #5: Before I Fall

In pages 120-150 in Lauren Oliver's Before I Fall the girls are shown at Kent's party once again. Samantha's true self is slowly starting to come out piece by piece and she makes her friends leave the party early this time hoping it will prevent the wreck from happening again. The wreck is described vividly but without to much information saying, "then all of a sudden there's a flash of white in front of the car. Lindsay yells something- and suddenly- well" (129). You know what happens next. Of course, she wakes up again in bed on February 12th and is being given yet another chance to change her day. Samantha knows she needs to be brave and persevere through the day but she chooses to try and change things up by going into school late and faking sick. Once she goes in late she thinks to herself, "there's not going to be an accident tonight" (137). The willpower she has to try and stop the car wreck is extremely heroic and a side of her that has never been seen starts to come out. She risks her relationship with her boyfriend by asking if her friends want to stay home and watch a movie instead of going to the party, and she risks the chance of something else going wrong if they do not go to the party. Samantha is a very brave character who is starting to be very compassionate.
