Why would'nt Derekand Chloe call the police about the bodies in the crawlspace?

I was asked this question on a Fanfiction forum for Darkest Powers, and it made me stop and think. How come they never called the police? I even went back I the book to see if there was even an inkling of detail, suggesting that they would tell the authorities.

So I would like to know what is your idea of the matter.

I'm trying to think back, cause I don't have the first book only the first and second but I have read it. Were they allowed to have their phones? I think they didn't call the cops maybe because they were afraid that what if the other people hid the bodies and when the cops got there nothing would be there. I'll deffinetly have to re-read that one

They would probably have to explain to the police what they were doing there in the first place, and things would get complicated and messy...Chloe's aunt could go to jail...

because derek knew that he's a werewolf and he knew that Chloe is a necromance so he knew that the polica couldn't help.

I'm guessing that like marasmus, Derek is a werewolf. So he obviously knew about the things that went on at the home and knew that the regular police wouldn't do much. Also, they are in a group home. Chloe was diagnosed with schizophrenia, would the police really believe a young girl with schizophrenia that there are bodies on the basement? And lastly, there are dead bodies down there. Who knows how they died, if they people who killed them found out Chloe and Derek knew they could be next
