SOLVED. Tree branches as doorways to other "worlds" - children or YA book published before early 1980's [s]

Childrens or YA book read while living in B.C. Canada prior to 1989 (it was the most mature book my grandfather kept in the toy chest for when grandkids visited so it may not be a kids book)

A group of children access other worlds by climbing to different branches of an ancient, giant tree. They get into various elements of trouble in each standalone chapter.

Might be The Magic Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton, which is for fairly young children (age 6ish, I'd say).

Yeah, I was gonna say the faraway tree too :)

There's another book I read when I was younger involving a tree though... I'll try to remember the name of it, I don't think it's that one though, I think it was for very young kids.
