What is "Asleep", by The Smiths, about?

Morrissey wrote it to his friend who had just passed away. He's saying that he's tired of life and wants to go with his friend :(

It's a beautiful song, isn't it?!
I've always thought that's it's about suicide too.

The main interpretations seem to be about suicide. The act of suicide is an escape from the current "world", and move onto another one.

"Don't try to wake me in the morning [because] I will be gone. Don't feel bad for me. I want you to know deep in the cell of my heart I really want to go." I think Morrissey makes it pretty clear, and he's known as a lyricist for being kind of dark at times.

From my interpretation is about suicide, but in a gentle way, rather than the more violent ways that other more 'emo' bands take it.

I really think it's some kind of lullaby or what.
