Yeah, that's on my bucket list...probably won't happen for a few years until my kids are both school-aged at least, though :)

I finished God's War and haven't decided what to start next - we'll see what moves me when I sit down to read next. Something light, most likely...I go back to teaching next week when school starts, farewell maternity leave/summer vacation!

Ouch! That sounds like it could be a painful transition! Good luck!

I'm juggling God's War with three non-fiction books and a book of poetry - so things are not going as quickly as they could. Next on my list for fiction is Ruby.

Oh my, back to work already? Didn't you just have your baby in May? :)

Helen Shel, my deepest sympathy. I'm back teaching on Tuesday. I've had four weeks off for summer with a 5000 word essay to write. Rubbish!

I popped in to say Uprooted is one of the best books I've read this year.

I put both King hereafter and The Game of Kings on my to-read list, but i decided to pick Macbeth's story first, it being a standalone. Actually, I'm enjoying it so far, the omniscient narrator technique is very fitting and I don't know, I feel very immersed.
I had to put it on hold in the last few days because I'm having little time to read and it's not the kind of book you can read in bits, I'm currently reading a forgettable book while waiting for this week to finish.
I'm looking forward to picking up KH on the weekend :D

I'm impressed with Dunnett so far. You are really making me want to try the Lymond series soon.

Sure went fast, didn't it?

That's ok...I'm not really cut out for stay-at-home-parenthood, I've always known that about myself. I'm actually really looking forward to getting back to work, I'm just dreading the time management part of it...

I can't get it out of my head, I almost want to read it again, now.

You all have convinced me - I just requested Uprooted from the library. Apparently I'm fourth in line for it :)

I haven't managed to pick up another book since finishing God's War, I don't seem to have the brainpower at the moment - been just vegging out in front of the TV instead. I'm picking at short stories when I do have the energy to read.

Christine | 637 comments I just finished Dark Orbit which I enjoyed and recommend; I am about to start on Steles of the Sky and am hoping it is better than the previous book in the series

I would definitely recommend Uprooted too, while it's not a complex book, I would not call it light either. And the story is addictive.

Yay. My reading time will drop after tomorrow, back to school. I've been told my new class are lovely!

Ditto here...reading material for the next ten months or so will include the work of 90-something eighth graders!

Alissa Helen, Shel, I don't envy you :( I wish you a good back to work.

message 68: by Helen (new)

Helen Thanks Alissa. What age are eighth grade? I'll be reading year 3, age 7-8. All subjects.

message 69: by Lulu (new)

Lulu (robotwitch) | 65 comments I've put The Dark Forest on hold at the moment because I'm terribly bored by it. In the meantime, I'm just over a third of the way into The House of Shattered Wings! I'm really enjoying it so far, very fast moving with plenty of mysterious threads to the plot to keep me turning.

I'm also making progress on The Night Circus, which has surprised me in how much I'm liked it. I've also just started The Bad Beginning, with Tim Curry as a narrator! And, as if I don't have enough on the go, I'm onto a new non-fiction with The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organising.

Justine (justine_ao) | 636 comments Lulu I'm so interested in your feelings about House of Shattered Wings! I've got a buddy read of that scheduled for December and I'm looking forward to it.

I''ve heard such mixed reactions on The Dark Forest I'm not really interested in reading that one anymore...it's good that you feel comfortable putting things down when they are not working because there are just too many other good books out there to spend time on something not making you happy.

Age 13-14. I teach science, four sections. It's a ton of fun but hooo boy does it take a lot of energy! :)

Back on topic - I've been reading some O. Henry short stories, but I think I'm going to move on to some Georgette Heyer with her collection Pistols For Two, her novels are great fun and I expect her stories will be too!
