Deborah Sastroredjo (lievedebs) | 185 comments Hi, I keep forgetting what challenges I entered, even if I don't enter a lot. I try to "track" them via notifications, but sometimes they get "lost". How do you keep track of the challenges you need to update?

Any and all tips are welcome.

*feeling dumb*

❤Stephanie ღ♥ღMrs Daryl Dixonღ♥ღ | 2613 comments make your own topic in the folder Member's reading list https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group... just post the challenges that you have entered. this is what mine looks like but mine is in another group https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... it should give you an idea of how to keep track of all your challenges.

message 3: by Joi (new)

Joi | 665 comments I have a notebook and I write down all of my challenges. I am a member of multiple groups. So I have one big notebook and I separated it for each group that I am a part of. And I write down the length of the challenge and the rules. I also write down the books that I planned on writing. *It works for me, but it may be a lot of work.*

Deborah Sastroredjo (lievedebs) | 185 comments Thank you. I really forget what challenges I'm in, even if it's just a few. Is there a way I can track them down now?

Wow Stephanie! Awesome collection of challenges (found one I forgot I was participating in, thanks!) and drooling over your books too :)

message 6: by Sera (new)

Sera (seracatty) I have a reading challenges topic like Stephanie in a different group and I have a favorites folder with links to all my current challenges - which makes editing them so much easier and faster. I wanted to write it all down as well, but I just don't really have the patience for it.

❤Stephanie ღ♥ღMrs Daryl Dixonღ♥ღ | 2613 comments you might just have to go through all of the groups that you are in and look through your comments to find all the challenges you have participated in, or just look at the challenges that the groups have and try to remember if you have entered them or not.

I seem to have a big problem when it comes to challenges, i just can't say no.

If you forgot the challenges you entered in this group, you could go to the member section and when you see your picture you will click your comments. You will see all the comments you have made in the group and that will show you what challenges you entered in. Hope that helped :)

☼♎ Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress ☼♎ | 7238 comments I also tend to forget so I write them in a notebook and I keep it close by so I can write down all I need and then when I get the chance I out them into the challenges they belong too but I like Stephanie's idea too.

You good now, Deborah? Or do you have any other questions?

These GoodRead 101 topics might help, as mentioned by ❤Stephanie and Cécile:
Add a New Topic to a Folder
(Like your 2014 Reading Goals under our Member's Reading List Folder.)
Make a Link for a Review or Whatever
Thanks, Joi, Trinity, and Carmen for also chiming in.

Rebecca (rebeccasg) | 3792 comments I have a google doc's spreadsheet where I keep each challenge organized in its own tab. (I love spreadsheets and color coding things). That way it's all in my email and easy to update/change.

message 13: by AndaM (new)

AndaM | 168 comments I have many challenges so I create a group ( My Challenges ). I am the only member and I create a topic for every group I have sign in for challenges. It looks like this :

And in every topic I have all the active challenges for the group. When I finish one challenge I simply move it to other folder ( named DONE :) ).

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments I have my own private group, too, to track my challenges. I divide the folders by GRs groups and open new threads for each challenge I enter. I edit the thread title with a ✔ when/if I complete the challenge.

message 15: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 3595 comments I also have a private group. It's set up just like LK's except I have a folder for completed challenges and move the challenge threads into that folder when completed.

message 18: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ I have my own private group as well. I move completed challenges to an archive folder (per group of course) to keep my active list easier to manage.

Here's the link to my group which like everyone else's is private but you can at least see how I set it up.

message 20: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3137 comments I also have a secret group to keep track of my challenges and other such things.

If you don't want to bother with a group or a thread though - you could always keep a folder in your browser's bookmarks of the challenges you've entered. If you click on the time stamp of your post it will create a link directly to that post - then you can keep track of your place in the thread as well. :)

This is sort of like what I do. I also used a poster board so it's easier to choose which book I want to read next. It includes the number of pages and the author. I may expand my notebook like yours as it seems easier. Thanks for the idea.

message 24: by Kari (new)

Kari (mazuka) | 427 comments this post is really really helpful. I have a question for those of you in multiple challenges, do you mark off one book read in multiple challenges (i.e, Angelfall for the ABC challenge and also used in a State challenge and also in a spell it out challenge) or do you try to have unique books in each challenge?

message 25: by Trinity (new)

Trinity For me, I like to use the same book for multiple challenges.

message 26: by Nichole (new)

Nichole | 980 comments Part of the fun in selecting books is to see how many challenges it will fit. At least for me.

I, too, have a private group. But I also use bookmark folders too, for quick references.

message 39: by ᒪᗴᗩᕼ (new)

ᒪᗴᗩᕼ (audiobookingwithleah) I use Evernote on my computer and each challenge is copy and pasted there. I also have links that go directly to my post on each challenge. I can also check on this or make changes on the go from Evernote on my phone. I usually copy and paste each book update back to post on evernote, so then I know it's updated. I worry that I'm going to use up all my free space on evernote, but so far I have 22 challenges on there and I haven't yet.

Wondering also about using the same book for multiple challenges. Can this be done for multiple challenges just here at NBBC? How about using the same book that fits a challenge here, but also a challenge in a different G/R group?

message 41: by OddModicum Rachel (last edited Sep 16, 2014 09:35AM) (new)

OddModicum Rachel (oddmodicumrachel) | 126 comments I asked the same question, Ladiibbug. I was told that same book for different challenges are ok, even within the same Goodreads group. Some people belong to 20+ challenges, so separate books for each would be impossible. So you can use same 'read' for 2 different challenges here at NBBC, plus other challenges scattered around your other Gr groups. Only thing you can't do is use the same book for different categories in the SAME challenge. For instance, I'm in a challenge now where one of my books would work for the letter S in a spell-it, as well as a specific content point in the challenge (main character carries a gun). I had to pick only one spot for that book in that challenge. Make sense?

message 42: by Emily (new)

Emily | 1278 comments In the past I have done mine on an excel spreadsheet, if I am doing more than one. I cut and paste it over and than highlight each when done. I have also used the tab to keep track of the types

message 43: by Kathy (new)

Kathy | 10 comments Not having much luck entering my challenges to the site noted above. It keeps asking me for a book name and won't let me go on without this specific.

So I will track on a spreadsheet. Is the way to "enter" or say I am working on a particular challenge to "reserve" by a post or....? Can I just list them all when I am done or do I have to note when I am starting?

I'm not sure what site are you talking about.

You can track your challenges as you wish. If spreadsheet works for you, great. I've created my own group for that, since spreadsheet would be too huge with 50+ challenges (yes, I have a problem :P)

To 'enter' the challenge, all you need is to say you're in. We'd also appreciate (but it's not necessary!) if you'd keep some kind of track what you've done so far. You don't have to edit it after every book, but from time to time. That way you're also helping others in that challenge if they need idea what to read. And we like seeing all those books and covers :P

If you are using site, copy link to said post.
--> right click on time of your post (top right of your post in that beige(?) row) and then copy link location

If that's too complicated, click on time to open it on new tab and then use that link.

Sabrina The Book Lover | 21 comments I quite like the idea of setting up a secret group to keep track of all one's challenges, up till now I had them on an Excel spreadsheet but I think I would prefer to have it all here on GR.
