Will Grayson, Will Grayson
question
I didn't like this book, who else didn't???

The main reason I didn't like this book is because of the language, mosty. Like in John Green's other book, Looking For Alaska, it was inappropriate and I thought it had to much cussing and things that we teach teens not to do today, like smoking and drinking. This book was also confusing at the end, which is not good. Like, when tiny announces he is gay, but i thought everyone already knew that. Will Grayson is surprised at it, but he even says tiny is gay in another part of the book. So...

Really couldn't stand this book!!!! Everytime a customer buys it (I work in a bookstore) I want to tell them it is terrible but alas I cannot.
John Green and David Levithan do a pretty good job painting realistic characters... especially teenagers who make their own choices. In my honest opinion, maybe the characters in this book are little bit young to understand as much as they do about the consequences of their actions. But for the most part, they act like real people. Part of that is ignoring what adults teach them. And cussing. I mean, really, high school seems like a ways away at this point, but I remember quite a bit of foul-mouthed posturing in the locker room.
Some writers depict what should be, and that's fine. Green and Levithan make a living on telling stories with what already is.
I don't mean to come off defensive or anything-- I have no presumptions on how you came to this book. All I mean to explain is how the authors tend to write. It's fine with me if you didn't like the book, it doesn't hurt my feelings. Thanks for being honest.

In all honesty, what I didn't like about this book was how Green's characters were like ... every ... single ... other John Green character. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate what Green does for his fans since his fans are usually people like me, who grew up being marginalized for being a geek. Still, his writing feels like it's always the same and that's a tad annoying.
Levithan's characters though ... they were okay, I guess?
I can only guess that Tiny Cooper was a character they created together since he's the only one worthwile mentioning. He was the best. That's that. So it sings even more that he can't have a happy ending for his romantic life. I guess when you're a gay character you're not allowed to be happy in teen books.
All in all, the book was pretty mediocre.
