Chapter 9: (view spoiler)[ I'm not really liking it at the moment. I'm finding it's taking a while to read because of the way it's written. I can understand if it's like that because Todd can't read or write very well, but I'm still finding it irritating. I also knew that he would find that the "quiet" was a girl, not too surprised there. I'm hoping for more explanation as the book goes on, because it's pretty confusing right now. I'm thinking 1 or 2 stars at the moment but I think it's going to get better and I'm liking the mystery bit right now. I just got to the end of Part One and I am slack-jawed in awe of that twist at the end. I'm very curious about all of the secrets and how this place came to be. I hope to get more answers as the story progresses. Im also very curious about the process of becoming a man that Ben showed Todd. I'm trying not to write any spoilers as I'm writing this from my phone and cant hide them. Going to keep reading! :)

I think it was a very bold choice of the author to create a first-person main character who cannot read well. I find it terribly annoying that I can't know the information contained in Todd's mother's journal (especially as Viola seems to have read it through his Noise, but he won't accept her help), and at the same time, incredibly aware of my privilege of being able to read. It creates, for me at least, another level of connection with the character because I feel the same frustration he feels at not being able to read, both because of the journal and because of the occasional misspelled words in the text that trip me up and slow me down, as all written words do for him.

On a lighter note, I am terribly attached to his dog, especially after he started shouting "PUPPIES!" and I am hoping that the dog remains a character through the whole series.

I finished the book last night, and I am so happy with how things with (view spoiler)[Aaron (hide spoiler)] were finished. I also finally got the explanations I've been wanting since the beginning of the book. Of course, there's still a cliffhanger at the end to lead you into the second book, but I think it was well done. The author managed to wrap up some things, and still leave enough important loose ends to make the reader want more.
Also, I am so happy that I started this series after all of the books were published. I would be horribly unhappy at this point if I had to wait for the second book to be written.

During the time that I was reading this book, I would catch myself continuing in the same world even after I had put the book down. By that, I mean, I would catch myself having a thought, and then thinking that people around me could hear that thought, or what if they could hear my thoughts. Reading it made me more aware of what I think about; does that make sense? Is that weird, lol? Anyone else do this?

I remember Knife having weird writing style, maybe that's why I don't like it. He writes like the MC can't spell properly, and it's such a pain.
