I think all avid readers go through this at times. What do you do when it happens to you?

For me, if I find no book is really engaging me, I tend to think that I am just bored with reading for awhile.I usually go back to playing games on my laptop or my Kindle Fire or I get several movies or series on DVD from my library.

If I have given up on some titles that I am pretty sure that I should be enjoying, I make a note of their titles to try again later.

I have also found that reading a different genre than the usual, sometimes helps.

How about it, how did you get through your reading slump?

Nicole D. (thereadingrebel) | 2 comments I like to reread an old favorite or catch up on the tv shows I watch or watch a series or movie on netflix. I also will listen to an audiobook.

Hi Nicole, Welcome to the group. Those are great ideas.

Becky Lawyer | 106 comments Wow. I don't think I've ever been in a reading slump. WRITING slump, heck, yeah. My problem is more that I want to read but nothing sounds good. I suppose that could qualify, though, come to think of it. OR, what I'm reading turns out trashy and I have to stop. That's so disappointing. So, I ask a trusted source for a recommendation and that usually helps. I just joined a reading group and can't wait to get started!

Sometimes for some unknown reason, I just can't get into several books in a row that I try. Or I start them
but don't feel like continuing.

I really just don't feel like reading at those times.

Fortunately, I eventually get over it.

Desiree Taggard | 51 comments I call it the reading hangover. I usually get it after finishing a really great series or if a book got to me emotionally. I just can't pick a book to read or feel like the books I pick up are rebounds and just don't enjoy them as much. To get over this I will usually go back to the harry potter series or listen to a non fiction audio book. These always help reset my reading button and allow me to start on my next adventure with excitement and no worries.

It is totally like fuzzy pjs for me. My husband thinks it is hilarious.

Becky Lawyer | 106 comments Yes, I love, love, love Harry Potter. It's a world I would go live in in a heartbeat. I love to listen to Jim Dale's reading. That is comfort to me. My daughter has a pin that says something like, "Home is walking in the door to the sound of Jim Dale's voice while my mom sews." Made me cry.

Misty | 56 comments You know how they say after a Netflix or Hulu binge you get in a "show hole"; that place where you're faced with the stark reality of life outside the fictional realm and you're not sure where to go next? I think that happens to me with books. I can get so attatched to characters and when the book is over I go into mourning. I usually have to take a break after that because any book I pick up will just be a rebound book, Lol.

S.T. Sanchez I call my friend Kiora. She reads a book a day, and has similar tastes to mine. She can always find me something to read that sounds exciting or intriguing
