THOUGHTS ON THE MOVIE?

Yelena Bosh I haven't seen the movie yet (not showing here till March sadly) so any thoughts on how good or maybe bad it was?

I am a huge fan of the books so how well does it compare as an adaptation?

**No Spoilers Please!

Courtney Lee Do you live in Australia? That's where I live and I have to wait till March too.

So far I've heard really good things about the movie. It's said that its really true to the book. Though people have been saying that some of the transitions between scenes is choppy and that the movie feels really rushed. Also that the fighting scenes look a but choreographed.

Im really scared about the sequel though. I really want one but apparently not many people are going to see it (non book fans, that is). I seriously think they should have done more promoting and kept the worldwide release on feb 14th. But hopefully we get the chance to get a sequel so that the movie people will learn from their mistakes

Cassie The movie is great and very close to the book my only complaint is that it was kinda rushed but it is very faithful to the book (not as close as catching fire but not far behind) the movie is really worth seeing even if you didn't like it as much but still see it because they had a lot of stuff to go over in the first movie for people who didn't read the book but i hope it makes enough for a sequel because i have a hunch that will be much better.

Yelena Bosh @ ♥Courtney♥ Ƨнα∂σωκιƨƨɛ∂4ɛʌɛя ♊
New Zealand, close enough haha
I also heard good things as well but many have complained about the transitions part and that what we saw in the clips/trailers weren't actually in the movie - so I'm worried about that since most of those clips were good aye?
What did you think of the actors that were chosen for the characters?
Yea I totally agree! Not enough promoting at all and Im not even sure it did well in the box office. I hope they make a sequel so bad!! It definitely gets better after the first book :) Hate that I have to wait so long to see it :/

Yelena Bosh @Cassie
Oh ok good! I was worried that it wasn't that good for no reason actually but now that I saw your comment I can't wait to see it (even if I have to wait a few more weeks :/ ). Sounds like it wasn't perfect but I'm not expecting it to be since even in the book there was so much to get through so that's i guess. I'm curious though, how was Dimitri's actor - Danila - does he have a big Russian accent in the movie too? OR was it the perfect Dimitri voice? Does that question sound weird? haha

Michel Danila was not what I pictured at first for Dimitri, being closer to 6' than 6'7", but it definitely grew on me. He has an obvious Russian accent, but not really intense. His shoulder length hair doesn't make him look as hot as he does with short hair (in my opinion). I think he plays the part really well. I also thought Rose looked younger than I had pictured, but that's probably because we are used to seeing 30 year olds play high schoolers in most movies/TV shows, right? :) I was overall happy with the movie, it does stay rather close to the book, although you will notice some differences in the beginning and with some details (I won't say more as to not spoil it). I too hope it makes enough to continue the series!

iamjenai ok, i thought the movie would turn into a vampire mean girls. but no, it was actually good... trailers were bad... it was way too misleading to us VA lovers.

the cheesy high school thing was definitely there but it was just like 20% of the whole movie. VA number 1 book is all about high school life so that explains that... the book gets intense in frost bite and in shadow-kissed so this part may not be that good to you which i remember getting bored with the first VA book!

danila, only heard a bit of his Russian accent because he only says some few words. I love danila... he may not be the Dimitri I have in my mind but definitely i'm falling in love with him now... LOL I'm seeing VA again next week the first time was like scrutinizing the movie... this time, i want to enjoy it.

my advise is just to enjoy the movie. DO NOT COMPARE . . . just try to process the whole thing without being negative about it. ;)

Elizabeth The movie was ok. But the guy who played dimitri was realy ugly.

Leslie I'd say the stuck 85% to the book. I was pretty pleased with that. I do think it felt rushed and they didn't develop some of the character relationships as well as the book. The movie over all was pretty decent. The few things I couldn't get over all centered around Dimitri....he was WAY too old, they didn't really develop their relationship so when something did happen between them it was awkward, like cringe in your seat awkward. Also I thought his acting was awwwwwwwwwful!

Michel Book Dimitri is supposed to be 24 (if I recall correctly) and movie Dimitri (Danila)is 28 in real life. I think the long hair did make him look older, especially playing opposite Zoey Deutch, who really is 18.
I would rather them forego the "shoulder length hair" and instead just let him be handsome.

Was anyone else bothered by the fact that Christian looked like Edward from Twilight? I only saw the first one of those (so its been quite a while), but I thought the resemblance was uncanny.

Nikita I liked it. The actors I thought were great and it was nice to see new faces. Rose is awesome, Lissa is fun, Christian and Dimitri were hot, in my opinion. I loved that they have a real Russian playing a Russian character.

I didn't like that it was under two hours long, I felt it could have been better if it was longer. It was too fast in some areas and didn't have enough character development and understanding of the depression issues Lissa was having and bonding time between Dimitri and Rose.

What was changed from the book, I think I can deal with but if it was longer, it might have done better. It's still a better story than Twilight and if they can make all the Twilight books into movies, they better do the same with Vampire Academy.

Youlia Zeitouni The movie was good..And yeah it is rushed.I liked both Dimitri and Christian. Rose is Beautiful and played her role well..But it was too much humor and that made me like it more!!:d

Brynne The movie was good but I agree with the people above me who say it was rushed. The casting was amazing though! And you should definitely look forward to seeing it!

Amanda The movie wasn't as faithful to the book as I would have liked and there were a lot of problems that I found. That being said, I actually found it very entertaining, though I'm not too pleased with the casting for Dmitri, mostly because he wasn't really what I pictured in my head. That's just me. What really bothers me are the reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. They've never read the book but feel the need to insult it and make assumptions about it because they didn't like the movie. Insult the movie all you like, but don't presume you have a right to judge the book because of it.

Katheryn April. That's when I get it. FFS WE DO NOT LIVE ON PLANET MORON! How can they possibly expect the box office to do well when they've spread the release dates so much, the film will be online soon enough. >_< Anyway, yeah, I've heard mixed feelings about the movie, and to tell you the truth, I was excited at first, but now I'm not so sure. The trailers leave much to be desired, especially with how intense the books were.

OMG I noticed that, too! I love Twilight, and Rob (Edward as well, d'uh!) but I was like "um...hello...what is Edward doing in VA?" that was odd. I guess the whole vampire thing, but really? The hair, the make up, it just screamed CULLEN!

Michel Katheryn wrote: "Michel wrote: "Book Dimitri is supposed to be 24 (if I recall correctly) and movie Dimitri (Danila)is 28 in real life. I think the long hair did make him look older, especially playing opposite Zoe..."

Hah, glad I'm not the only one who noticed :)

Chaekworm Even though Christian looked like Edward, he was one of the best parts of the movie! I thought Dominic Sherwood was great. Just enough wit, sarcasm, broodiness, yet sweetnes. He was really good. I think that Danila looks older with long hair, and i almost think it would have been better to have him cut it shorter. Or maybe if they made another one (which I'm kind of doubting seeing how not good this one is doing... stupid release dates) they could chop it. Or mayb he just needs to lose a little weight? I thought he was a little on the bulky side for this height and compared to Dimitri in the books. But, oh well. I was pleasantly surprised with the movie. : D

Cecilia Vazquez The movie was great it whent according to the book and i cant get enogh of the accent of Danila And Dom their just sexy.

Alyssa Giselle A lot of my friends who have read the book as well as saw the trailer doesn't want to watch the movie and so do i.. I'm scared that imma be dissapointed when i see it but now having read your comments i guess if i find someone to come with me ill watch it. And i guess imma cross my fingers all through out the movie hoping i would like it.:)

The Angry Lawn Gnome I liked it. Didn't think it was great, but was entertained. Call it a 3.5 on a 5 scale.

But it has clearly tanked at the box office. It is already out of the theater I saw it in, after a run of less than two weeks. I imagine this is being repeated across all of the USA and Canada.

I'd say the prospect of Frostbite in any format is now zero. As in, no theatrical release, no direct to DVD and no TV series. I'd be surprised if the worldwide box office tops the equivalent of USD $ 10 million...and don't forget the studio only gets to keep about half of that. Meaning this film is probably going to lose somewhere in the USD $ 20 million dollar range. Maybe more.

Christa I was pleasantly surprised by the movie. They took a few liberties with some minute details about the way the story unfolds, but all of the important events were there and they were done reasonably well. What upsets me is that this was a MUCH better adaptation of a series book than the first Twilight movie or even Hunger Games (I really didn't like how they did the first one) and both of those series got progressively better with each film (assuming, as I have only heard rumors about Catching Fire). It is a shame there will likely not be a sequel due to the poor box office performance, which can probably be attributed to unfortunate release timing and a terrible marketing campaign.

J.C. Best movie adaption ever! I loved the cast so much. It was like the characters truly came to life right before my eyes. Zoey was an incredible Rose and Danila is amazing! A total god! Christian was perfect: sexy and dark at that same time. Lissa--who I have never liked not even in the books--bugged me just like she always has, so they did her well to. The only thing wrong with the movie I thought was that it went so fast. I would have loved it if they had slowed down some of our favorite parts a bit more.

Lonneke OMG! I just saw it and it was GREAT!!! I loved it! It was so true to the book although some things just were mixed together but I guess that makes sense because the movie can't just be 5 hours long or so. But it was so good! Perfect cast, great school (really awesome) and also so many things from the book in there it was just so good!

Here's my review:

Things I Liked:
-- Cameron Monaghan as Mason
-- Zoey Deutch as Rose--She was hilarious.
-- Danila Kovlovsky as Dimitri
-- Dominic Sherwood as Christian--captured the gloomy, tortured Christian.
-- The bond between Rose and Lissa--very well done, liked Rose’s commentary
-- Sarah Hyland as Natalie
-- Chemistry between Danila and Zoey
-- The Psi Hounds
--All of Rose's lines were so great. I liked Natalie's lines as well.

Things I didn’t like:
-- Lucy Fry as Lissa--mainly the writing. Movie Lissa is so mean and sassy (and calls Rose a blood whore for goodness sake), not sweet like Book Lissa
-- Magical Cutting of Lissa’s arms--ruins the character depth of Lissa, and the mental effects of Spirit
-- The Queen Tatiana Scenes, especially the one at the end, it was very forced.
-- Lissa’s speech was weird. No one knew she liked Christian in VA...
-- DIMITRI DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH SCENES!!!!!!!! AT ALL!!! I think we needed a training montage.. that would have been awesome. or a montage about Lissa and Rose arriving back at St. Vlad's...
-- The explanation of the Lust Charm-confusing... also, that scene seemed very rushed.
-- Aaron looked really weird
-- When Dimitri walks in on Rose and Jesse, that scene wasn’t very violent...
-- Ms. Karp leading an army of Strigoi... What?
-- Sami Gale as Mia. Her lines could have been better, and I didn’t like the haircut.
-- Olga Kurylenko as Kirova. Too young, and too pretty. Way overplayed.
-- Tatiana’s clothes...She wears business suits, not robes and dresses.
-- Editing of the fight scenes could have been done better.

Other:
-- Rose is basically a female Jace (book Jace from CoB)
-- Jesse is a caveman. ("you, me, me, you, tonight.") To Rose.
-- Mason’s life sucks in VA and only gets worse from there.
-- People have said that Christian is like Edward Cullen. Yeah, no. I honestly don't understand this...

All in all, I loved this movie. Loved, loved, loved!!! The things I didn’t love were mainly inconsistencies from the book, but I’m okay with that. (Most of them were necessary) I would give Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters an A- or A. Hoping for a sequel!!

Chaekworm I saw this movie, again, last night and it was better the second time around because I could focus on the movie instead of worry about it. I thought it flowed better the second time around. I do wish that it had been slower paced, though. I wish there were more moments between Dimitri and Rose and more on Lissa and her problems because of spirit.

Emma Overall, I feel like the movie was good. It was a little humored and light in places where it should have been more serious. I remember the book being more serious. And I like that for Dmitri that he was cast with actual acting skill. It was just his looks that threw me off a tad bit. AND WHY WERE THEY ALL BRITISH. THEY AREN'T BRITISH.

Elena Carrasco is this book worth reading??

Tara T the movie wash really rushed. i dont think they are going to make frostbite.

Rebecca Eaton This is one of my top favorite series. The movie was okay but it certainly did not have the budget. I am loyal to the books so I will watch every movie they make.

Carrie I saw it last night with a friend of mine who has read all the books--and is very into them. We both thought the movie was good--real good...it was rushed, for sure...and there were a few odd changes to the book--but; all in all--good. Character-wise...we both agree with some of the other comments--the Dimitri, Rose, and Mason characters weren't exactly ideal...and certainly not what we had pictured. Our biggest critique--again--it was too rushed..I felt almost breathless (not in a good way) at the end...still-thumbs up for me...and my friend.

Holly Calhoun I haven't seen it because I really loved the books and just from previews I didn't like the casting. The guy cast as Dimitri looks way too young for the character described in the book. he just doesn't seem to fit at all.

Lol most people are saying Dimitri looks to old. I've seen the movie and wile Dimitri may not look the part (to some people) he was the perfect actor he did a perfect Dimitri

Alex I've been a fan of these books for years. A lot of people said the film was amazing, but I found it soooooo pathetic. It was just horrible! I laughed while watching it - not because it was funny, I laughed at the stupidity. I stopped watching it after twenty minutes. I just couldn't. I have never been so disappointed.

Frostbite's not going to happen unless the movie producers are fans of siphoning their money into a black hole.
