TwoCagedBirds | 53 comments The story is told from the perspective of a teen girl named Emma or Emily or something. She's probably about 16 or so. In the beginning of the story she's sitting on her front steps talking to her best friend. Two boys walk up and start talking to them about how their friend's older brother has been missing for like a year, and how the last time anybody saw him he was breaking into the big creepy haunted house in their neighborhood. They go talk to the boy on their school's bleachers, and agree to go and search the house to look for his brother. That night they all meet up at the house. They have to hide in the tall overgrown grass from a cop that's passing by the house. They break into the house. As they start going from room to room they realize that the rooms are moving and changing. Soon enough, some creepy monster/guy who can shapeshift into whatever he feels like starts stalking and taunting them as they're going through the house. I think, at one point, Emma is stuck in a room, while the monster is slowly inching under the door. Theres a vanity in the room with a mirror. She looks into it and can see the guys and her friend on the other side of it. She had gotten seperated from them earlier somehow. As the monster is slowly coming into the room, she realizes that the only way to escape him is to jump into the mirror. She jumps through the mirror and Spike, one of the guys (who she also has a crush on) catches her. They eventually find the boy's older brother in (I think the dining room. I remember there being a fireplace and a big table, I think). It looks like he's been dead for months at least though. They know its him because (I think) of the letterman jacket he's wearing and because he's wearing his class ring. If I remember correctly the boy's brother takes his ring. They keep moving, trying to find a way out of the house. Near the end of the book, the guy shapeshifts into (I think) some creature that has a lion's head. They eventually manage to escape from the house. At the end of the book Spike and Emma kiss. The book was part of a horror series, I believe. Kind of like the Fear Street books. Published in the late 90's I think. On the cover, it showed a boy going into a big creepy looking house at night. That's about all I can remember. If anybody knows what book I'm talking about, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!!!! :D :D <3 <3.

Valerie (valeriekemp) | 274 comments Could it be part of the Point Horror series? Or one of it's offshoots?

TwoCagedBirds | 53 comments No, I don't think so. I just looked and none of them seemed familiar. I'm almost positive it was part of a series though, but for the life of me, I can't remember which one.

The Forever House by Mark Rivers from the Taggard Point series fits https://www.goodreads.com/series/1187...

The first review on GR mentions an Amy, missing brother, a boy name Spike, and " [a house with] surreal, ever-changing maze of rooms."

TwoCagedBirds | 53 comments YES YES YES. OH MY GOD. I didn't think I'd ever figure out what this book was called. Thank you SO SO SO much. You have no idea how long this has been bugging me, just sitting in the back of my mind like "what's the name of that book? What's the name of that book?" and not being able to remember. Ugh. Thank you again so much. I really appreciate it :D :D :D.
