I agree that, they're all "...trying to hook you deeply into an ecosystem of interconnected technologies." but this is exactly why you shouldn't buy in to anything proprietary. Many of his recommendations are, though. I would ignore this guy. He hasn't thought this through very well & has a short memory.

He's also a proponent for bolstering the big boys which stifles competition & leads to less choices. When Apple decided to lock Google maps out of their iPhone, it drove their users to hacking, for instance. Eventually they gave in & allowed Google maps back, which killed their own mapping service that sucked. (Following Apple maps led one user on to an airport runway.)

He's also wrong in the impression he is trying to make when he states:
But the best thing about Apple’s hardware is that it maximizes your ability to be promiscuous with software. Apple’s App Store is home to more programs than any other app marketplace.

You can get far more apps that are less proprietary through Android, if not in one place. There are choices between similar apps among the various stores. With Apple's products, you MUST use iTunes & many of their other proprietary products. A recent update messed up that software for many people & they had no recourse until Apple fixed it. Other phone users have alternatives.
