Jan Thompson (janthompsonauthor) | 113 comments Please may I ask you how to solve a recurring problem. Whenever my book goes live on Amazon, it appears on Goodreads without my doing anything. However, every single time, it is attributed to the wrong Jan Thompson. Not to me. Previously a librarian told me that my name has two spaces between "Jan" and "Thompson" and the other author does not. This is for Goodreads. However, on Amazon my name, correctly, doesn't have two spaces there.

So deja vu. I'm on Goodreads to add my newly published book to my list of books. I go to it, and I am unable to add it to my list. So I went to the search bar and look what I found again. My book is listed among another author's books (ironically he/she also writes religious books). Se in the middle of it all is my book DRAW YOU NEAR.

https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...

Every month I'll have new books published, and this will be difficult for me to have my books listed under someone else's inventory. What should I do? I do not want to permanently have two spaces between my first and last names. That is not correct, punctuation-wise.

I am fine on Amazon, so I don't want anything changed there. It's the Goodreads listing that I'm having a monthly problem with. Any suggestions?

Empress (the_empress) Adding additional spaces is the only way for goodreads to be able to distinguish different authors with the same name. If you look at your name displayed under the book it appears to only have one space. The spaces are only seen on the edit page.
You may think one more space is wrong punctuation-wise, but we think it would be wrong if all authors with your name had a shared profile. As they are not the same person.

You will simply have to request books to be moved on a regular basis.

Book moved and series created: https://www.goodreads.com/series/1587...

Moved series info from book. Merged duplicate.

Alternately, you can manually add each book (or ask in this group for it to be added) -- with the 2 spaces -- before it imports from Amazon.

The two spaces are only visible on your author edit page and on book edit pages. Punctuation isn't really the issue; keeping your books and profile separate from the other author with the same name is.

Jan Thompson (janthompsonauthor) | 113 comments Thank you so much, Ellie and Rivka!

Elie - re: "You will simply have to request books to be moved on a regular basis."

I should keep the link to this thread/post so that I can add comment next month for another book to be moved so we can keep it on one thread? I have 5 more books coming up in the Savannah Sweethearts series, one book per month until Christmas. I also have another series, Seaside Chapel, that is less frequently updated (one new novel published every 3 months).

Rivka - re: spaces

Oh I see re: differentiation. OK if the spaces are only visible on edit pages. No problem. Thank you!!

If you're going to do that, please clear the link to the specific book for the thread to avoid confusion.

Jan Thompson (janthompsonauthor) | 113 comments Oh yes it's at the top. Thank you. I have another book coming out on August 22, 2015. I'll start a new post then considering it does ask me about the book in question. Thank you!

Jan, as rivka said you can request the book to be added in the database before the scripts do it. As soon as you have ASIN/ISBN we can add the books to the database.

It's okay to post a new thread for each request you will be doing in future.

Jan Thompson (janthompsonauthor) | 113 comments Hello! It's me again as per your request from last month. Please could you add this new book under my name? It's listed under the wrong Jan Thompson. My reviewers are wondering about those other books I didn't write. LOL. Thank you so much!

Jan Thompson (janthompsonauthor) | 113 comments Ellie - Does that mean I can make the request when my book is on pre-order and I don't have to wait until it's released? Thank you!

message 10: by Empress (new)

Empress (the_empress) You can make the request as soon as you have an ASIN/ISBN as the automated scripts import books that are not in the database.

You can see here your book was in fact imported by the Amazon script.

moved and added to series.

Jan Thompson (janthompsonauthor) | 113 comments Thank you, Ellie! Will remember that next month.

Also I scrolled and found this "empty book." I forget if I accidentally set it up previously. How do I delete it? Thanks!

lethe | 16368 comments Jan, please remove the topic link to the earlier book, as threads for one specific book tend to be closed down when comments about other books are posted there. (see comment #5)

Jan Thompson (janthompsonauthor) | 113 comments Lethe - Uh oh. Panic. How to "remove topic link"? Sorry.

message 14: by lethe (new)

lethe | 16368 comments No need for panic :)

Next to the topic title (A recurring problem - my book attributed to the wrong author) there is a little 'edit' link only visible to the OP. If you click that, you have the option to clear the book title from the topic.

Jan Thompson (janthompsonauthor) | 113 comments Oh thank you! That was painless. I did it per your directions. Thanks!

message 16: by Empress (new)

Empress (the_empress) I see the other book (in #11) was also sorted :)

Jan Thompson (janthompsonauthor) | 113 comments Hello again! I participated in a boxed set, and once again, my name is linked to the wrong author.

Box set: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

If you click on my name there "Jan Thompson" it will take you to this:
