Katie (viridianflare) Currently, I am "reading" an audio book ( Cold Days (The Dresden Files, #14) by Jim Butcher ) and a regular book at home ( Neuromancer (Sprawl, #1) by William Gibson ). I've always thought I should stick to one book at a time, but I'm loving them both so much that I can't help it! Do you guys ever do this? Or should I really just finish one at a time?

Doris (reviewerfornetgalleryandonamazon) | 322 comments Sometimes I have 2 books on my currently reading list, but; I can only 'read' one at a time. I like to picture the story within my minds eye and to many stories going I can't concentrate.

Orion (twilightambition) | 26 comments I keep a handful of ebooks on my phone for when I go out and then I usually have at least one physical book I read at home. So, usually 2 or sometimes 3 if I need something lighter to read so I can kind of have a break in between reading a very dense book.

message 4: by Jenn (new)

Jenn I'm usually reading 4 books at one time. I like to be able to switch depending on my mood but its something I've done for so long I can't stop lol

message 5: by Liv (new)

Liv | 0 comments I just read one book at a time. But once I read such a sad and gripping book that I needed a break in between and read a funny story on my eReader to lighten up my mood.

message 6: by Kat (new)

Kat | 50 comments I normally have a few books to pick from to read, and I start one but if it's not very engaging at first then I will switch to another one and rotate around. If I get caught up in one particular book then most of the time I stick with it and finish it.

I usually have THREE books going at once. An old-fashioned romance novel I keep tossed in my car in case I get stuck somewhere, I have something to read. Something more interesting to read tossed in my karate bag while I wait for my kid's class to finish before I start my own, but not so interesting I can't put it down to go get the stuffing beat out of my by a 16-year-old blackbelt :-) And then a book I'm currently determined to finish, usually a BOTM group read or something related to a story I'm researching.

meghann (megs182) | 140 comments I try to read just one at a time. But if I'm not feeling the book, I may start a second one as kind of an incentive to finish the first. So I'll read to a certain point in the first book and then reward myself by reading the good one the rest of that day. Fortunately that doesn't happen too often.

message 9: by Veronica (new)

Veronica Rosa (veronicadelrosa) I can only read one book at a time because I'm an obsessive reader. If I start another, then that means the first one wasn't good enough to keep my attention.

message 10: by Joselyn (new)

Joselyn Moreno (joselynraquel) | 82 comments it will depend maybe two but usually just one

message 11: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie | -1 comments I usually read 1 on my iPad and listen to another on audio while I'm at work.

message 12: by Michael (new)

Michael Lewis (mlewisct) | 9 comments I usually read two at a time, but if one is especially compelling I may stay focused on just that one. Sometimes I have a third going as well, usually a non-fiction that is easy to put down when I need to.

message 13: by Danielle (new)

Danielle (restlesspixie) | 30 comments I tend to run three at a time. If one is especially engaging, the other will be ignored until I am done. I have the attention span of a gnat at times.

message 14: by Shelby (new)

Shelby Suderman | 60 comments I usually have 2 or 3 going at once so I can go by what mood I'm in. Sometimes though it's that I have to get one done by a certain deadline or something I've been waiting for is finally available.

message 15: by ~JustMel~ (new)

~JustMel~ | 59 comments Right now I have about 10 or so simmering, but I'm only actively reading 2.

message 16: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (jessical1961) Yeah! That's me as well. I have a total of 14 on different burners, but I am actively only cooking on three; an audiobook, an ebook and a daily devotional.

message 17: by Ron (new)

Ron Estrada | 1 comments Ha! I'll usually have one or two fiction novels going on my Kindle, an audiobook for the drive to work, and a couple "How to Write" books. I'm also a podcast junkie (more "How to Write"), so I don't even remember how to tune into the radio anymore.

message 18: by Beth (new)

Beth | 2 comments Always reading at work between calls, so typically only reading 1 book at a time, but I usually already have at least another 2-3 books lined up to read behind it.

message 19: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Katie,
I used to believe firmly that I should devote my undivided attention to one book at a time, you know out of respect to the author and the story. But I have come to realize that if I am reading several, usually two or three, at a time, then I can better keep focus on all of them because of the variety they provide. For instance, if I start a high fantasy book and a classic book at the same time, they balance each other out in my mind. And I often do an audio book for commuting and walking my dog, while reading a book book (so what do we call books these days?) during my free time.

message 20: by K.D. (new)

K.D. McQuain (kd_mcquain) I can usually read two books at a time, one for pleasure and one for research. More than that and I lose focus.

message 21: by Xen (new)

Xen Randell (xeniya) | 29 comments I'm totally incapable of reading more than one book at a time. I'm book-monogamous :P I get too much cought-up in the world of the book to spare the attention to another book.

Maggie the Muskoka Library Mouse (mcurry1990) I usually read two or three books at once. They are scattered throughout my house so that if I am in one room I can read a chapter of THIS one, while just before bed I can read a chapter of THAT one, and so on and so on.

message 23: by Alicia (new)

Alicia | 22 comments When I was younger I read 2 books at once. Now I stick to one novel to give it all my attention.

message 24: by Hazel (new)

Hazel (gator2u) I usually have 4 going, ebook for at night, one for in the morning while drinking coffee, one for the rest of the day and the last one is a book that my girls are reading togethet.

message 25: by J.S. (new)

J.S. Watts | 5 comments Depends on the books, but I currently have about three on the go. One is inevitably poetry.

message 26: by Constance (new)

Constance Roberts | 2 comments I always have a book on my kindle that I can take on the go and a print book that I can cuddle up with at home. I find it's not that hard to manage two books at a time. But that's it!

message 27: by Anne (new)

Anne three ........... one audio in the car, one ongoing on my Nook/Kindle reader and one loaded into the iPod for exercising.

message 28: by Amy (new)

Amy Grasse | 1 comments I vary between 2-4 books at a time. I usually pick which one to read depending on the amount of time I have to read.

message 29: by Shari (new)

Shari Sakurai (shari_sakurai) I usually read two books at a time - normally one on my kindle and one in print!
