I read the book about a year ago. A young widow has hidden by the Scottish border from evil, English brother in law (or some other relative) to avoid being forced to remarry because of her extensive properties. When she steps away from holy ground she is being kidnapped by a laird who wants her as a wife. All through the book he is wooing her. His former mistress is upset and makes mischief. I think she tries poisoning the heroine but the hero is poisoned instead? She informs to evil brother in law and there is some kind of confrontation between the laird, an enemy of his an Evil brother in law. Evil brother in law gets the lands in England, the Laird gets his girl. Turns out in the end that the priest from the church told him to get the girl, though he thought the laird would woo not kidnap her.

Paper book, ebook, other? Did it seem new or old?

It was an ebook. I didn't really think about it's age and I don't remember the cover. :(

No. She was not illegitimate and she was not thrust up on her, he stole her. Thanks for the suggestion anyway. I think I'll give it a try.

Made me think of Julie Garwood too. Like several of her books jumbled together - Saving Grace, The Wedding, The Bride. Unfortunately, it doesn't fully match any one of them.

It doesn't seem to be a Julie Garwood book, but at least I got a couple of new books on my to-read list. :)

Micah | 37 comments I haven't read this book, but after reading the description I think it kinda sounds like your book. Bride Of A Scottish Warrior

There are definitely similarities but it's still not the one I'm looking for. In the book I'm looking for her family aka evil-brother-in-law has another match in mind and doesn't know about the hero before halv way through the book. Most of the book happens in the Scottish highland.
