It appears that Trump is having trouble staying on message even with a new campaign staff. Fortunately, the Religious Right approves of bashing ministers...er...Then again, maybe not.

Damn that Obama! It's all his fault! If only he had been for the bill, then they could have voted against it!

The only thing that surprises me is that they actually bothered to vote on anything.

It's true, Gary. Obama has done a poor job of reminding congressmen to carefully research new legislation before voting. You know, reminding them to do their job sort of thing.

I have to admit that I missed last night's VP fiasco, but I did get a chuckle out of this two-line summation found on Democratic Underground:

Kaine: Trump, Trump, Trump, Trump, Trump

Pence: Who is this 'Trump' person you speak of?

Pretty fair summation.

I watched it. You didn't miss much. The most interesting part was seeing them both ignore the moderator.

Yeah, I found the mod's attempts to bring them to order to be a bit pathetic. She needed a great big gavel.

Melki's summary is about right, too. I listened for a while, then had to turn it off.

The first 100 days Bill will be buying dishes and sheets. Recess is over in Congress, and everyone is getting their to-do lists. Why do you think she is always taking notes during the debates? Women don't let anything "slide" and multi-task like no man is capable of. It is going to be fun to watch.

There was an element of truth to that at one time. Now that the Republican party has unraveled, it is mostly people on the dole voting for Trump. That doesn't make any sense except that they are also white supremacists. The demographic studies of the Republican party are frightening.

The Democrat Party has always been aware of their tendency to attract whack job candidates, so they have the super delegates to prevent them from taking over. Republicans need to do that as well to prevent their fiasco from happening again. Many Republicans have bailed now and re-registered as Democrats.

I agree with Brena. And traditionally, the Democrats have almost always been supported by the majority of unions and working-class people, while the Republicans have been the party of the wealthy. You're behind on your statistics, Rodney.

Still, thanks for the joke.

Ha - looks like Trump's election may put a dent in the gun market.

This from Bloomberg:

Smith & Wesson, which announced earlier this week that it will change its name to the highly generic American Outdoor Brands, has seen its stock tank on the news of Donald Trump’s presidency. A Donald Trump presidency means gun-owners will not perceive an immediate threat to the availability of guns, which means no fear-buoyed impulse purchases of American Outdoor Brands firearms, which in turn means a 20 percent crash in the value of the company.

Thanks, Obama Donald.

Interesting development. Apparently, Trump's election is causing a bit of a progressive backlash in some countries.

This is no time to be diplomatic – we should not wish Donald Trump well

It has been a gloomy couple of days for people with progressive values all around the world. However, there is hope. Yesterday, we had one of our best days of membership sign-ups ever. I would not be surprised if this is the case for other progressive political parties around the world. Trump’s election is a powerful motivator.

As a headhunter, I look at job descriptions and resumes, and look for matches. Based on that, Obama was the singularly least qualified President ever elected. But he was still the President, and I wished him the greatest possible success.
At least Donald Trump has the advantage of having had Obama as a predecessor.

Joel wrote: "Obama was the singularly least qualified President ever elected..."

ABSOLUTELY NOT TRUE!

For example, Woodrow Wilson's entire political experience was two years as the governor of New Jersey before becoming president. Chester A. Arthur was nothing more than a political crony who never held an elected office before being elected VP. He was elected to the Oval Office by a vote of one , Charles Julius Guiteau, the man who shot James Garfield.

Here's just one of many websites listing US presidents less qualified than Obama:

THE LEAST QUALIFIED MEN TO EVER BECOME PRESIDENT

Then, one must consider things that don't end up on a resume. For example, let's compare:
-Obama's IQ with that of George W. Bush.
-Obama's work in his community with Trump's exploitation work in his community.
-Obama winning the popular vote twice with Trump NOT winning it even once—ever.
-etc.

Responding to the statement: "[American citizens are] so thirsty for [leadership] they'll crawl through the desert toward a mirage, and when they discover there's no water, they'll drink the sand." Michael Douglas said in The American President :
Lewis, we've had presidents who were beloved, who couldn't find a coherent sentence with two hands and a flashlight. People don't drink the sand because they're thirsty. They drink the sand because they don't know the difference.

Strangely, the Founding Fathers feared the popular democracy of an uneducated public, so they created a system whereby an educated elite could override the popular election results and screw up just as badly.
