I was hoping to read: Jimmy The Kid which is part of this series."

The fact that he's an ex-con is great, but the book would work anyway since it revolves around a kidnapping/abduction and, presumably, false imprisonment of the kid. I'll add it to the pre-approved list in post 2. Just point DLMRose there when you post your completed task. Looks like a really cute series!

Oops ... I'll be reading a different Dortmunder book for this challenge (still works since he's an ex-con.
I'm going to use Jimmy the Kid for a different challenge.

That's fine. Just point DLMRose in the direction of a GRs description or review that talks about his prison time (there are lots of reviews that mention it for the first book in the series, The Hot Rock.

What about An Officer and a Spy? Since it centers around the Dreyfus Affair, and he spent a fair amount of time imprisoned on Devil's Island, it would work from that perspective. But Dreyfus himself, although the focus of everyone's action, doesn't much take part in the plot. There are some flashback scenes with him in them and some letters from him, but the book is mostly about other people trying to determine what happened.

Isha | 224 comments Could either of these work

Unravel Me - the main character is being accused of murder

An Inconvenient Affair - Troy, the main character spent time in juvie when he was younger. It's mentioned in a couple of reviews

I'd still consider Dreyfus a major character since the plot revolves around how and why he was sent to prison. It works!

Since he's "handcuffed to his hospital bed," it sounds like the main character in Unravel Me is in police custody so, yes, that works.

But I don't think An Inconvenient Affair is going to work. From the reviews, it sounds as if his father bought his way out of juvie and they sent him to military reform school instead (which isn't really where I was going with this task even if it feels like prison).

(answering while Kristi is on vacation) - the task requires that the GR description must mention jail, imprisonment, etc., and I don't see anything like that in this description.

(answering while Kristi is on vacation) - sure, the GR description makes it clear that he's imprisoned.

SthTx Dawn (dawn99) | 114 comments Does Lincoln's Grave Robbers work? It's about these bad guys who want to steal Lincoln's body to ransom their buddy out of prison. Also, it's aimed for teens, but has "children's" listed as a genre on main page. So..just checking to see if it works all the way around.

It sounds like without Ben Boyd there'd be no story, so I would consider him a main character. So, the plot works.

Books marked children's will work for 5, 10, and 15 point tasks as long as they are over 100 pages and are not picture books, easy readers, or early elementary school books. So this book works on that front as well. I'd say you're good to go!

Yes, House of Mystery, Vol. 1: Room and Boredom works.

Black Fridays by Michael Sears
"Jason Stafford is a former Wall Street hotshot who made some bad moves, paid the price with two years in prison, and is now trying to put his life back together."

From the synopsis, the novel begins after Jason Stafford is released from jail. Thanks!

Abducted and held in a prison works! Since the GRs description doesn't make it all that obvious, though, make sure you explain how the book fits when you post it.

Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption A Story from Different Seasons by Stephen King
This is a short story taken from a longer anthology by King. It has been published by itself, however, in both this format and audio book. The Shawshank Redemption by Stephen King

Would this work?

Or must I read the full anthology

This book was disallowed in messages 43 and 66. The paper version you've linked to is large print so the page count cannot be used. I did find a PDF of the story online (don't ask me how that's legal, copyright-wise!) and the PDF is only 71 pages long. So, no, sorry Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption won't work for this task.
