John | 17 comments I just started a Pinterest account and set up a board to showcase a little on the progression of my Children's book series and the illustrations I used.

Just wondering if anyone else had tried this and had any info or do's and don'ts.

My board is https://www.pinterest.com/thenotoriou...

Thanks

Shannon Peel (shannonpeel) | 34 comments Trying to use Pintrest to promote my novel. It's set locally so It's easy for me to go out and take photos of things that are mentioned in the novel, like blackberry vines and the ships in the harbour. I just need a 13 year old kid to add.... I think my 16 year old son will be pissed if I use his pics from 13.

I spend way too much time on social media promotion and not enough time writing the next one.

Royalene (royald) | 3 comments Totally understand your "time" frustrations. No matter who publishes our books these days it is up to the author to reach out to the folks we've written our books FOR. God bless you, friend-writer. BE ENCOURAGED!

Rita Chapman | 566 comments I too have a Pinterest account for my books, but haven't seen much interest in them. I do find people re-pin some of the horse pictures I have pinned.

I think everything helps though!

Shannon Peel (shannonpeel) | 34 comments I broke down and used my kid's pics from when he was 13... hopefully he won't notice....

Trying to find a following and then get everyone in one place so you can count them is difficult. The key is engagement not numbers. You want to find that group that will be your cheerleaders, champions, and supporters. Once you find them.... The work will be easier.

Check out my social media and follow me if you think you'll get value from it.

and of course here on GoodReads.... Don't forget that!

Ana Salote | 6 comments Hi John, the link you give is to facebook not your board.
Like your board Shannon. You're right about engagement not numbers being key. The holy grail is finding the ones who generate good word of mouth. It's tough out there.

Nancy LiPetri | 16 comments I do have my book, along with many others, on Pinterest. The only followers I notice re-pinning my cover are the authors at my same publisher, but hopefully other followers at last see it. It's all fun, and yes we should be writing instead of on social media.

Thank you for pointing that out. I fixed it. It's bad when you ask a question about something new you've never used and then you even list it wrong! Oh well, I'm still learning a little every day. :)

Hi Shannon,

Your facebook link is incomplete--I found you by continuing your name, but the link (as it is) is broken.

Also, the g+ link takes me to a search page and not your profile.

I thought you'd like to know.

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 2274 comments I've been finding picture that pertain to and depict my upcoming novel so I made a thread and showcase the board around every once in a while. I hope that the board will serve as a visual for the book.

J.D. Wright (everealm) | 15 comments My fantasy-romance series, Everealm, is set in a medieval-ish time with magical elements, so I have boards for medieval clothing and landscape (castles, etc.), etc. I haven't really developed it as much as I would like, though.

Nancy Glynn (nancyglynn) | 59 comments I do! :) I made a few boards, one featuring my scenes coming to life. Also, what helps is getting the Pinterest Analytics that tells me what pins are being viewed/most popular, and I link them to my website with my books for sale and/or Amazon. I repin my book at least once a day so my followers see it in their feeds.

Here is my link: https://www.pinterest.com/NancyMGlynn/

I'm gaining more followers as I add hot/spicy pics and anything to do with reading/books. I can also see at my website tracker viewers from Pinterest, so it really does work!

P.S. I also turned my regular account into an author account, and that's how I get the analytics graph. I think you go to your settings to do this, can't remember now.

Nancy

Nancy LiPetri | 16 comments Nancy to Nancy, thanks! Just followed you, and can't wait to get time to try your great idea on book promo.

message 16: by Virginia (new)

Virginia | 34 comments I have two pinterest accounts, one that's just for my latest book, and another that is my author account.

For the book one (Blade'sEdgeBook) I pin pictures of people who look like my characters, scenes that look like the world it's set in, and women with swords. (Oh, and I pin other YA book covers there too.)

For my author account (Gwendamned) I actually pin stuff that I'm using for research, or scenes that I'm using for inspiration, so the board is more diverse and covers multiple story lines.

I have no idea what I'm doing, so I'm open to suggestions. I stopped pinning for a while because I got busy doing other promotional work, but pinterest is actually my favorite form of social media so I'd like to get back to it, and I'd love to learn how better to use it! The analytics thing that Nancy was talking about sounds super useful!

message 17: by Anna (new)

Anna Bradley (goodreadscomanna_bradley) | 28 comments I use it. I need to go in and update my boards, but I have a board for each of my books with pictures of characters as I see them and other interesting bits here and there. For example, one of my books (historical romance) takes place at a house party, so I pinned some pictures of English country estates to that board. I also pin the book covers and any promo graphics I do for the books on that board.

I never thought to make a board specifically for the book with pins relating to the characters! We have a board for our blog and for topics relating to the book and bookish things, but none for the book itself. Love your ideas, thanks for sharing!Do you have a link to your page? I'd love to check it out!

Here's the link to our page if anyone is interested!https://www.pinterest.com/laughingleo...

Well, thank you! It was fun to put together, which is a bonus since I don't always love doing other social media. Here's the link: https://www.pinterest.com/annabradley....

Have fun with your page!

Thank you! You have some great pins! And I'm right there with you on the social media. It's not my favorite thing to do most of the time, but I do enjoy Pinterest!

Kathryn Hall | 9 comments I did set up a board on Pinterest for my book Plant Whatever Brings You Joy. Glad I did. It's a link I can use here and there for promotion. It's also a kind of visual log of the adventure of promotion. :) https://www.pinterest.com/theplantjoy...
