My book group has picked some bad ones before but this was really beyond the pale. Overwrought, silly, unbelievable in every detail and, according to those brave souls who were able to finish it, a big fat downer to boot. VILE!

Ohhhhh YES!!! I found the characters in this book to be loathsome, the assumptions the author made about how people would behave totally stupid, and did I mention loathsome? That husband was unbearable to me, and all that business about his dragging home some pregnant waif never thinking his family might assume she was his lover was just awful. I do not understand how people love this book, but they do. I didn't. And if this is an example of what this author does in her writing, I will cheerfully pass on anything else she gets into print.
