Jay, how many years ago did you read this book? What genre did it seem to fall in?
Remember anything about the plot besides the funeral?
Was it geared towards teens or adults?
I read it in the sixties or early seventies. Much of it took place in New York in the 1910's. ...A romance of sorts...but certainly not one that ended up happily...more like reminisces of early 1900's new york...certainly the upper crust
Hi Jay, not sure about your book, but I wanted to suggest Edith Wharton as possibly the author you are looking for.
Love Wharton...this author was one who has a last name linking her to a prominent New York family..maybe just old money family....not sure whether society or what but seems like there was a link somewhere.
The title was simple: The/Abeautiful/perfect
life/family?
Probably was a book club buy.
It seems the funeral was for the love interest of the flash back parts...who ended up marrying someone else...two sisters play prominent parts whether they were both in love with the guy I just can't remember.
Ellin not Ellen...Ellin Berlin. She was the wife of Irving Berlin....Died in the late 80's. I'm am so happy to have found this again. Thank you all for your assistance! And three cheers for the GROUP!

Title was simple...such as beautiful life, or a Perfect Life.
Author....was female, maybe Ellen, and I link the last name with a familiar NY name
I think the book opens at a funeral (Someone named Augie?)
It's spans edwardian period to contemporary (in the 60's/70's)
Sisters are involved...love...very pleasant historical
