I love Duma Key! It's one of my favourites along with It, The Shining, and Misery. I enjoyed Carrie but definitely don't feel it is one of his best. It was dark and interesting but not as scary as some of his other work.

I really want to read The Shining. I watched the movie years ago and know that the book will be even better.

Part 1
(view spoiler)[ The people are just as bad as Pennywise. They're horrible. Is he influencing them maybe? I was so cheering for Beverly when she leaves. That has been the most satisfying parts of the book so far. I mean, he deserved worse, but that's okay. lol. I can see how this little group of misfits is coming together. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 7- Part 4
(view spoiler)[ I love how they are coming together, sort of protecting each other with safety in numbers from bullies. It's weird how this is sort of taking me back to when I played outside as child with my friends building things like this. Seems like kids just don't do that anymore. I'm able, now, to keep the child to adult characters straight and where they are in the present. It took a good chunk of the book, but I hadn't realized there were so many characters and they sort of sound the same. (hide spoiler)]

Making slow progress but will hopefully get this read before the end of the month. I'm up to the end of chapter two and love the set up with (view spoiler)[ the storm, making for an eerie setting, and poor innocent Georgie's disappearance whilst his sick brother is left at home. Chapter 2 moved on by thirty years. It was intriguing but I was eager to move back to the 1950s and what is happening there.

I do dislike the prejudice of these characters though. Harold called Don 'just a queer'. I know the n word appears soon too and whilst I understand that it's not the author's thoughts but his characters voices saying these things, I don't want to read it. (hide spoiler)]

Up to the end of chapter three - (view spoiler)[This chapter introduced the reader to the Bill's friendship group as adults and following Mike's phonecall to them, begging them to return. This long chapter exemplifies why I love King's writing so much. He writes about seemingly trivial details but really builds a scene and gives an in-depth insight to his characters through them. I could honestly read him write about nothing and be entertained. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[I loved understanding their adult characters before the return to childhood. I really felt I knew who they were and who they would become. I'm not liking how sinister and dark everything has already become though. (hide spoiler)]

Up to the end of interlude one - (view spoiler)[Mike's search into Derry's past uncovers that there has been a long, long line of sinister occurrances and that the death rate is six times that of any other American town of a comparable size. It was also revealed that the older town occupants were aware that these deaths ramped up evert twenty-seven years or so. They were aware of this cycle and yet everyone turned their heads away and refused to face their fears and acknowledge it. This is what caused Mike to reconnect with his childhood friends and beg their return. (hide spoiler)]

Up to the end of chapter five - (view spoiler)[So little Ben well and truly has my heart. I just love his sweet nature and mature little self. I really enjoyed the introduction to his character and felt so sad reading of the bullying he endured and beatings he recieved. This is what allowed for the friendships to form in chapter five though, so I guess that's the silver lining there. (hide spoiler)]

Up to the end of chapter ten - (view spoiler)[I'm still loving this, even though I'm making super slow progress. I really like how the past and present tales are simultaneously told and how one chapter in the present will flow directly into the next chapter, set in the past, beginning half way through a sentence and still somehow managing to make sense. I'm at the point were the Losers Club have returned home. (hide spoiler)]

Up to the end of chapter eleven - (view spoiler)[I'm really loving spending such a long time with these characters, as both kids and adults. I really enjoy each and every one of their perspectives and they all bring unique insights. (hide spoiler)]

Up to the end of chapter twelve - (view spoiler)[the group split off and explore Derry separately, leading to Pennywise and memories to appear. This was probably one of the scariest chapters to read, so far. (hide spoiler)]
