The suspense keeps building at creepy bits and then dropping again. I enjoyed the last 100 pages but it feels like the story isn’t really getting anywhere very quickly. I hope soon the suspense will build and then stay.

I put it down for a while to prioritize some other (much shorter) BR's but I'm going to listen for a few hours today at 2.2x so I should whack out a good chunk.

Up to Part 3. Ch 10 - 3 (42%). The ebb and flow of tension is the only thing keeping me entertained. I feel like just as I'm becoming bored it picks up again and I get reinvested.

I switched to the audiobook at 2x speed yesterday and I’m getting through the book a lot faster now. Just hit 75%. I feel like it’s finally picking up and keeping the tension it builds. (view spoiler)[ some of the scenes in the book are just unnecessary though like the scene with Henry and Patrick when Bev was hiding in the car and Henry’s other friends had left. That wasn’t needed. I did enjoy the rest of the parts with Patrick though. It was an interesting insight. (hide spoiler)]

And it makes sense now why King spend so much time on all those details. The reunion wouldn't have had as much of an impact, or made as much sense, if we didn't know many of the details. It really wouldn't have. The backstory made them more human than if we had just gone straight into the action I think.

(view spoiler)[Yup, I'm genuinely afraid of what Tom and Henry are going to do. Especially since Pennywise seems to be pulling the strings. Speaking of, Pennywise is a much more involved villain than I was expecting. Like, he's not just a monster to be defeated by a few random people. The rivalry is strangely personal to him. He chose these six (formerly seven).

One last thing I wanna add, I love that all the things that might not have seemed important are coming back now. I really didn't expect that Henry would have a role as an adult. (hide spoiler)]

Yup. King is making all the parallels in order to neatly wrap up the story which I appreciate. And you're right, it is personal for him which is a really cool element.

(view spoiler)[Wow, George's death upsets me everytime! Horrific and while it's not a drawn out complex death, it's still graphic enough to disgust you.

Quick question: would a 6 year old child in 1957 know what a 'commie' is? We're in Georgies head for the first chapter and commies are mentioned so many times. Weird..

There's so much homophobia and harmful gay stereotypes in chapter 2. How many times is the f-word slur used? Too many fucking times. I get that, it was a different time and yadda yadda, but wow. Too many homophobia. What was the point of that chapter actually? Just to show that 27 years on, IT is back? Not a nice chapter to read. (hide spoiler)]

Regarding chapter 1 and 2:

Maybe he picked the word up overhearing conversations between adults? The second chapter was not a nice one. Maybe it was just intended to show how it was back then or it will be reveiled later? A very unpleasant chapter, seeing the gang in their adult lives and reacting to the news they have to get back together.

And opening with Stanley killing himself. That segment was very upsetting, especially seeing it from his wife's eyes and her having to break into the bathroom and finding his body. Ugh, awful.

Also, the segment with Bev was very rough. Just reading about the domestic violence and the Savage beatings she received from her husband. Again, just awful. I loved the moment she started fighting back and realised she couldn't let that man kill her, and she got out of there. I was cheering her on so badly!!

I feel like that chapter went on forever, and while it was 103 pages long, it was only 10% overall. Fuck me, this is a big ass book!! (hide spoiler)]

I've only seen the remake. I know there's a second part of the remake, but I won't watch it. I like to see the original, though, but I'm afraid of clowns. There was a period last year where people found it funny to dress like Pennywise, including the balloon, would walk over the street in the dark and scare you. It was even in the news. Last year I saw a perfect cosplay from someone at a comic con.

Just started today :) My third Stephen King, but my first time reading It.
Chapter 2
(view spoiler)[ Wow, those first two chapters were crazy. I knew about George, but chapter 2 really set up the environment for Derry. I get why the cops left out the part about the clown and I'm glad they at least wanted to get justice. Too bad it didn't play out that way. And it wasn't even Pennywise. I read Carrie (I think I gave it 2 stars) and Duma Key, which I liked a lot more. Both within the last couple months.
