Beginning asap ^^

message 2: by Rinji (new)

Rinji | 490 comments Yay. :D

Nina {ᴡᴏʀᴅs ᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ} | 1046 comments Mod
I have it ^^ I finally went to pick up books from the library, and now I have Lola and the Boy Next Door.

message 5: by Rinji (new)

Rinji | 490 comments Okay. So, I have never done a buddy read before so are we going to have a schedule of what to read and when or are we just going to read and then discuss it as we go?

Nina {ᴡᴏʀᴅs ᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ} | 1046 comments Mod
It's really up to you, but I usually go for the latter, read, and as we go along, we can just discuss it.

If you'd like, we can have a schedule, that way we're on the same page when/if we want to discuss something :)?

message 7: by Rinji (new)

Rinji | 490 comments I am good either way. I was just curious about how you wanted to do it. Just let me know.

Nina {ᴡᴏʀᴅs ᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ} | 1046 comments Mod
Hmmm, are you a fast, moderate or slow reader?

message 9: by Rinji (new)

Rinji | 490 comments I am between a fast and moderate reader. What about you?

Nina {ᴡᴏʀᴅs ᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ} | 1046 comments Mod
Fast usually, though I think over the next few weeks, probably moderate, unless the book is really good. So maybe, we'll just go with read at our own speeds, and just comment when we want to discuss/complain about something every hundred pages or so? Or whenever? (I don't mind ^^ I will generally comment whenever I find something to comment on lol--and I don't mind spoilers too much~)

message 11: by Rinji (new)

Rinji | 490 comments Sounds good to me and I don't mind either if I am reading a book with someone. If I don't have access to it then that is a different story. I will be starting the book tonight now that you have it. And it looks like a really good book.

Nina {ᴡᴏʀᴅs ᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ} | 1046 comments Mod
I think this book will be cute haha. And alright then we'll do that. And I will start tonight too ^^. I read a couple of paragraphs this morning, and Lola already sounds like an interesting character!

message 13: by Rinji (new)

Rinji | 490 comments Ahh. I will start reading it after I eat dinner.

Nina {ᴡᴏʀᴅs ᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ} | 1046 comments Mod
Awesome ^^

Yayyyyy! I can't wait to start ^^

message 15: by Rinji (new)

Rinji | 490 comments So I just finished the first chapter. It is really interesting so far. I like Lola so far. She has spunk and just wants her parents to like her boyfriend then gets worried about the people moving into the house next door to them. Turns out that it is a family she used to know and a woman by the name of Calliope Bell. I wonder who she is and why Lola is so upset about her living next door.

Nina {ᴡᴏʀᴅs ᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ} | 1046 comments Mod
Lola. Lola. Lola. Omg she's so funny haha.

I don't like Max though. Bad feeling coming from him even though I know he's a bad boy.

Lola is worked up about Calliope...but also there's a mention of a twin...is that...quite possibly the main love interest Cricket?!? (oh wait it is -just looked at the blurb again lol)

message 17: by Rinji (new)

Rinji | 490 comments Lol. Yes. I agree, something is off with Max. I have a feeling things are going to end badly between Lola and Max. I got to chapter four last night and still don't know what happened between Calliope and Lola. There was a mention of how she is a year older than Lola and when Lola started Kindergarten Calliope stopped hanging out with Lola because she did not want to be seen with a kid who only goes to school half the day. But I don't think that is it. There has to be more to it. Also, I can't wait until Calliope's twin comes into the story. I am curious.

message 18: by Rinji (new)

Rinji | 490 comments Also I like how Lola explains how in ninth grade she realized she loved Cricket, Calliope's twin brother. She talks about how his interest in clothing changes and how she had discovered that he was interested in his appearance.

"Cricket Bell had always been... nice. And he was cute, and he was intelligent, and he was older, and it was only natural that I would develop feelings for him. But the day everything fell into place was the same day I discovered that he'd become interested in his appearance. Not in an egotistical way. Simply in a "maybe baggy shorts and giant sneakers aren't the most attractive look for a guy like me" way.
So he started wearing these pants.
Nice pants. Not hipster pants or preppy pants or anything like that, just pants that said he cared about pants. They were chosen to fit his frame. Some plain, some pinstriped to further elongate his height. And he would wear them with vintage shirts and unusual jackets in a way that looked effortlessly cool.
So while the guys in my grade could barely remember to keep their flies zipped- and the only ones who DID care about their appearance were budding homosexuals- here was a perfectly friendly, perfectly attractive, perfectly dressed straight boy who just-so-happened to live next door to me."

I love that description. I find it amusing and it makes me like Lola even more. It gives us an idea of what she finds attractive.

Nina {ᴡᴏʀᴅs ᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ} | 1046 comments Mod
Haha I just read that part--I agree it's a really good description. Not only does it gives us an idea of what she finds attractive, but also further insight into what her character is like. Lola isn't the type of girl it seems to follow fashion or perhaps the leading trend. Rather she seems more like/is the kind of girl to follow her own style and own way of doing things.

message 20: by Rinji (new)

Rinji | 490 comments I agree. Since starting this book I have not wanted to put it down. I keep wanting to know more and what happened between Cricket and Lola to make Lola so nervous or upset around him even when she says she does not love him any more. I think she still loves him, to be honest.

Nina {ᴡᴏʀᴅs ᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ} | 1046 comments Mod
She definitely still loves him haha. She just thinks she doesn't :P (currently reading this while eating breakfast)

message 22: by Rinji (new)

Rinji | 490 comments Ahh. I think I just got to the part of the book that will go into what happened between Cricket and Lola, or at least some of what happened. Chapter six. I want to know.... really bad. I love the way that Stephanie Perkins wrote this book. I don't usually like first person perspective books but this one is so well written that I don't really notice it. I like it.

Nina {ᴡᴏʀᴅs ᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ} | 1046 comments Mod
I'm on chap 5 at the moment~though I'll have to stop soon, got things I have to do.

Love Lindsey, she's awesome ^^ so ballsy!

Ahhh fair enough! I usually prefer first over third, but I like both. Most YA is first. If you like this one, there's two other books. Lola's story is actually the second book out of three companion novels (it's standalone, but there is a book before this one, and there's one after too. Anna and the French Kiss is the first, you've already met Anna ^^)

Nina {ᴡᴏʀᴅs ᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ} | 1046 comments Mod
P.s. Cricket talks alot...........

message 25: by Rinji (new)

Rinji | 490 comments I like Lindsey as well. I like how she asks Lola if she could kick Cricket in the balls just because of what happened between him and Lola in the past. It made me laugh.

Ahh okay. That makes sense now. Thanks for that information.

Yes, I noticed Cricket talks a lot. In chapter six she mentions that he talks a lot and talks with his hands as well.

message 26: by Rinji (new)

Rinji | 490 comments Now I get it. He told her that nothing was going on for his birthday and on his birthday, after she spends all day trying to find his present, she arrives at his house and there is a party for him. That he knew about but did not invite her to.

Nina {ᴡᴏʀᴅs ᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ} | 1046 comments Mod
Lol that was the funniest part! About Lindsey.

Yeah, I figured it's still okay to do it as a buddy read since technically Lola's story is a standalone like Anna's and Isla's.

I wonder what the heck was going through Cricket's mind when that happened between them!

OMG CHAPTER EIGHT=BOOM.

I feel so bad for Cricket and also, kinda not......

message 28: by Rinji (new)

Rinji | 490 comments You got to chapter 8?

I feel bad for him a little bit as well but not. I want to know why he did not invite Lola to his party. Was it because of his sister? Or was it because of something else? I want to know...

Once I have finished reading this one and the other buddy read we have planned I might have to find Anna's and Isla's books and read them as well.

Nina {ᴡᴏʀᴅs ᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ} | 1046 comments Mod
Oh wait, I'm up to eleven now (these chapters are really short O.O and I never notice when I pass them for some reason!)

I know!!! I want to know that too. Because that was really mean!!!

If Lola is going to keep her interactions with Cricket a secret....-.-" this isn't good for her and Max, which will undoubtedly end badly.

I haven't gotten my hands on our other buddy read book yet--there's a slight queue, I'll have to check if it's dropped down though--and yep ^^ definitely check out Anna and the French Kiss (I did and didn't like it). If I like Lola's story, I'll go read Isla's, since I heard that one was really good!

message 30: by Rinji (new)

Rinji | 490 comments I agree that Lola should tell Max about Cricket. I am in chapter seven. I have been having to take care of some things at home so I have not been able to read much today.

Nina {ᴡᴏʀᴅs ᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ} | 1046 comments Mod
She definitely should! But then again, the fact that she doesn't adds drama to the book. Though idk if I'll like it. Then again, Perkins does write her relationships well, so I'm looking forward to what comes.

Hehe I've put it down for the day, got other things to do too ^^

message 32: by Rinji (new)

Rinji | 490 comments I just got to chapter 12.

Yes, Lola should tell Max but I can understand why she does not tell Max. I feel that if she told him that she was hanging out with Cricket, Max would over react.

message 33: by Rinji (new)

Rinji | 490 comments So I just started chapter 13 and Lola asks if her parents are trying to set her up with Cricket. She says No but I think yes. I honestly think that Cricket is better for her.

Nina {ᴡᴏʀᴅs ᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ} | 1046 comments Mod
True. She has a good reason not to tell.

Haha, I'm not up to there yet, but no doubt they definitely are :P

Cricket is better. He's the nicer guy, less....dodgy on the whole (from what I've seen anyway).

message 35: by Rinji (new)

Rinji | 490 comments I agree. For some reason I feel as if Max is cheating on Lola. Am I alone?

Nina {ᴡᴏʀᴅs ᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ} | 1046 comments Mod
O.O ooohhh. I don't know yet! Let me catch up and I'll let you know if I agree or not. Where I'm up to, I don't feel like he's cheating on her. Well, not yet!

message 37: by Rinji (new)

Rinji | 490 comments Then it might just be me because Max is not in the chapters from about 11 to where I am in chapter 14. So it might just be me.

Nina {ᴡᴏʀᴅs ᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ} | 1046 comments Mod
I'm still at 11 so we shall see!

message 39: by Rinji (new)

Rinji | 490 comments Yup. :D I am taking a small break from Lola and the Boy Next Door to read Conversion again until tomorrow. :D

Nina {ᴡᴏʀᴅs ᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ} | 1046 comments Mod
Nice! ^^ I probably won't get to read more of Lola until tomorrow, since I gotta catch up with other things~~

message 41: by Rinji (new)

Rinji | 490 comments Know the feeling. :D

message 42: by Rinji (new)

Rinji | 490 comments I am currently reading 9 books.

Nina {ᴡᴏʀᴅs ᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ} | 1046 comments Mod
O>O that's a lot of books! I'm only currently reading...3-5 books at the moment. (Two books--Dark Secrets and LOTR I've put aside for the moment.)

message 44: by Rinji (new)

Rinji | 490 comments Ahh. I have put about four of them aside at the moment but I plan on picking them up again soon. Right now I am trying to concentrate on the library books. Conversion and Lola and the Boy Next Door. :D

Nina {ᴡᴏʀᴅs ᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ} | 1046 comments Mod
Indeed, that's what I plan to do too! Since when I picked up Lola, I also got the Golem and the Djinni, as well as a bunch of other books for the Quarter Read ^^

message 46: by Rinji (new)

Rinji | 490 comments Ahh. Conversion is the only library book for the quarter read I have out at the moment. The Golem and the Djinni had to be returned and I am waiting for it to become available again.

Nina {ᴡᴏʀᴅs ᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ} | 1046 comments Mod
Hopefully it'll become available again soon! I had it on hold then it expired, but luckily I got it back asap!

message 48: by Rinji (new)

Rinji | 490 comments Yeah. It might be another week or so before I get it back. Oh well. I can wait. I have other books to read. :D

Nina {ᴡᴏʀᴅs ᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ} | 1046 comments Mod
Ahhh fair enough. Only a week's wait ^^. Plenty of time to knock down other books!

message 50: by Rinji (new)

Rinji | 490 comments Exactly. I actually did not read anything today. My mom had me help her pack for a trip. Then there were other chores for me to do. I will read some tomorrow though.
