I think the most common are Of Mice and Men, To Kill a Mockingbird, and Catcher in the Rye. I actually went through AP English courses and a 4-year English degree without ever having the read the latter 2! I remedied that. For my AP lit class we read Invisible Man, Madame Bovary, Crime and Punishment, and The Awakening. I highly recommend Awakening by Kate Chopin.
