I don't know how simple to make the books, if they should have pictures, or what! :(

Are you trying to make a picture book? Or one of those informational books about a particular subject?
Sort of both (it'll be picture-bookish, but informational).
Hmmm... I'm not sure if I can be of any help but what are you making the books for (for fun or for a potential published book)? Is your audience children or young adults?
My audience is anyone who doesn't have a high reading level, and I have no idea if these will be published or not. :)
Okay... I don't want to grill you with more questions (because I'm still a little bit confused) but I suggest you focus in a target audience. Keep it fun and simple for little kids. Teens like interesting information told simply (without pictures). Adults probably like more sophisticated yet interesting ideas told in an insightful way. I don't know what other advice to give you :(
