There's a rumour about American Gods having a part II for the sake of the HBO series. Please God, no. The book is long enough (and the characters are enought lol). Well, it's just a rumour!Wish they produce Good Omens first before American Gods.

I agree. I liked the book but not enough for me to read a sequel. I will not call on God though. He is too busy on more important matters.(^o^)
Alone in the Crowd, Luiz Alfredo Garcia-Roza
This book is a testament that Latin American writers are some of the best in the world. It's moody, almost existential, and just wonderful. The Espinosa series are wonderful - I've just read two of them, and immediately got hooked! Chief Espinosa of the 12th Precinct likes his girls beautiful. That he is a bookworm also adds to his charm.
Garcia-Roza makes Rio sound like a seductive woman - and I believe I've just been seduced.
This book is a testament that Latin American writers are some of the best in the world.I agree. Among my favorite authors that I remember (if my memory serves me right) to be Latin Americans are: Gabriel Garcia Marquez, J. M. Machado de Assis, Javier Cercas, Enrique Vila-Matas, Tomas Eloy Martinez, Antonio Tabucchi, Mario Vargas Llosa, Jorge Luis Borges, Juan Rulfo and Isabel Allende.
For me, #1 is GGM because I've read and liked 4 of his more popular works. In fact, he is one of my favorite novelists.

Have you read his book
Memories of My Melancholy Whores?
If not yet, would you want to be my book buddy? It's a thin book.

I haven't read it yet! Let's goooo!
Wonderful. So, when will you get yourself a copy of this book? Can we start on Monday, July 30th?If your answer is yes, please open a thread (follow the format of the existing threads) and tell us the reading plan. I will certainly comply.
Remember to invite others, too. The more the merrier.
I can get a copy soon - before the week ends. July 30 sounds great! Thanks - I'll get to the reading plan as soon as I have the book, and of course, everybody is welcome!
Micah, since we will start on the 30th, why not join us in reading The History of Love. Bennard and I will read that book together with 2-3 others starting on Monday, the 23rd . I heard that the book is very good and caters to both sexes.

Holden sounded like a kid version of Dostoyevsky's Underground Man. The narrative voice was really excellent. It's just that good that it automatically became one of my favorite books.
