It was ok. I expected a laugh out loud travel book like Bill Bryson's adventures in Europe and America but PEEING IN THE BUSH is not in the same league. Nothing wrong with that. Adeline Loh never advertised it as such. If anything, it was me who automatically assumed it was gonna be funny like one of Bryson's books. My mistake.

As a guide to Zambian safari and Zambia in general, it is very good and honest. Adeline Loh wants to go adventuring in the bush but she doesn't mind spending a little bit of money to stay in a cabin or a chalet instead of sleeping in a tent. A total urbanite, she and her friend Chan took a few nights sleeping in a tent (they had to, there were no cabins nearby) to figure out there were ways to stay warm in the cold Zambian night (eg, insulate your tent with extra covers).

She also peppers the book with lots of facts and history of the country she's visiting. Apparently there are lots of colourful characters and crazy bus drivers in Zambia.

Conclusion, it's an okay read but nothing to shout about.

Oh, one more thing. Adeline touches on the incredible level of ignorance among Zambians regarding the AIDS virus. She tells the story of how health volunteers went around the country teaching people about safe sex and condoms. The Zambians agree condoms are important....for people who already have AIDS! Apparently, you only use condoms when you're infected and you don't have to if you're not HIV positive. If it wasn't so tragic, I would laugh at the story. Instead I just sat there with my eyes and mouth wide open.
