I have to admit, I didn't think I was going to like it, but I kind of ended up loving it. Shows ya what I know.
I wish I would have finished the book before our meeting, because I would have loved to have participated in the conversation.
Two things I wanted to share:
As a writer, this line really stood out to me. She nailed it: 'That's what it feels like when I write, like I have this beautiful world in my head, but when I try to remember it in order to write it down, I change it, and I can't ever get it back.'
And, I typically despise open endings. I want closure! But I really didn't mind that this ending wasn't buttoned up. I never thought I'd say that, but I appreciated Ruth's view: 'In your diary, you quoted old Jiko saying something about not-knowing, how not-knowing is the most intimate way, or did I just dream that? Anyway, I've been thinking about this a lot, and I think maybe it's true, even though I don't really like uncertainty. I'd much rather know, but then again, not-knowing keeps all the possibilities open. It keeps all the worlds alive.'
