Review:
I finally found a bdsm series that can compare to Masters of Shadowlands in both length and content. This was a nice, quick read that didn't disappoint and made me re-think my reading plan for March.
I liked that there wasn't any drama in the book as the book was too short for that but for me it was the prefect length. The series itself has some interesting characters and I hoope they get their own books.

Book:
Not in the Flesh by Ruth Rendell
Date: 3/1/14
Rating: Five stars
Review:

This series has been consistently superior in the crime genre. I've read quite a few of the Inspector Wexford novels and none of them has been a dud. In this installment, Wexford is facing some lifestyle changes as well as a murder. Of the two circumstances, he'd much rather deal with the murder.

A body has been unearthed on the Kingsmarkham property of a less than cooperative owner. When it is ascertained that it has been underground for over a decade, and had long black hair, the number of potential victims expands rather than narrows.

The investigative team ends up dealing with a wild and weird group of suspects is another hallmark of this series. Many are very old, or merely act very old and cantankerous. One character lives with both his wife and his ex-wife. Another is a genteel old woman with a nasty racist streak. As it usual, Rendell sends the investigation on several minor wild goose-chases before they hit upon the correct suspect.

One of the things that I like about this series is the lack of extreme drama in Wexford's home life. Turning a main character's life into a soap opera in the crime genre is more likely to detract from the plot rather than enhance it. Unstable detective characters don't necessary make for believable stories.

Christmas Kitsch by Amy Lane (standalone)
Finished: March 1
Rating & Review: ★★★★. This one was a sweet read. Rusty and Oliver were that cute 1st love stories but with the issues that come with being gay.
Rusty was a beat down dog and Oliver was patient trainer, coaxing him out of that dark place. I loved Oliver's dad and his family at the holidays. What an inclusive and nosy group of people. Rusty's family, well, what a shame. I never understood how Rusty was so beat down before Oliver. I think i read "Stupid" by his name at least 20 times. But I thought Amy Lane did a great job capturing their emotions, both simple ones and their more complex ones. There were so many moments that made me smile and then moments where I was upset. All in all, Amy lane delivered again.

Tera (teaspa05) Kiss the Dead (Anita Blake #21) by Lauren K. Hamilton
Read: March 2, 2014
Rate: 4 stars

Review:
This is another Anita Blake book. She is kicking butt and taking names. There is a new vamp in town changing people (young and old alike) to vamps and having them be against Jean Claude. They kidnap a young girl and Anita gets on the case. With them against Jean Claude - it puts Anita in a difficult situation - between her job and protecting Jean Claude. Can Anita separate her vamp life from her executioner one? Who is Benjamin and Weiskopf and why are they after Jean Claude? (view spoiler) Anita is also having difficulties in her relationship of so many guys - especially Sin. Can she get over the age difference or is it time to take a look at down sizing her lovers? Can she separate herself from him? There is trouble in Jean Claude's people - is it time for one of them to leave? (view spoiler)

Enjoyed the book! The action was great as usual - Anita character is so badass! Wish there was more of Jean Claude in this book but otherwise - good!

This was an okay read. The story is about vampires. It takes about the same avenue you have seen in so many other vampire books. The characters are one dimensional and the it seems like the author tries to tell to much in such a short time. Leaving you with an okay read that could have been better if stretch out and put more depth in the characters.

Quick read - if you need something to read.

After hesitating yesterday about reading this book I finally got myself to read it and was pleasantly surprised. It was much better than the first one and I couldn't put it down until I finished it in just a couple of hours.
I liked the story and the mystery was a nice one, even though I suspected what it was long before it was revealed. Lorraine Heath is quickly becoming my favorite historical author, she writes great books, whether they're English or western historicals.
The next book is about Frannie and I'm really looking forward to it.

Review:
I like this installment of the Sonja Blue series as much if not more than the first. In this episode she's out to kill Morgan, the vampire who created her. She's attracted a lot of attention for being a vampire killer and she's still on the ancient and evil Pangloss's radar.

Enter Bill Palmer, a PI who was falsely accused of conspiring with a client to kill her husband. Pangloss pulls strings to get him released and turns Palmer loose on Sonja's trail. Though Sonja, he learns of his own psychic abilities. He agrees to help her with the plan to locate Morgan.

Meantime Morgan is carrying out a nefarious plan to create a species of vampire that can't be hurt by silver, sunlight or many of the other vampire weaknesses. However, his plans are secretly being sabotaged by one of his 'servants,' a heroine addicted scientist bent on revenge.

The battle scene between Sonja and her 'father' is pretty epic. The Other makes its appearance again and actually saves Sonja's life. Does it kill Morgan? It depends on whether you're thinking in the human sense or the vampire sense. The plot has more than one very interesting twist, including the final result of Morgan's tainted experiments.

This book is a 4-star but the H/h's lives were so freaking chaotic at times, it was stressing me out!

The heroine was Grace Brooks, 3rd member of the chocoholics and her HEA with Emergency Room doctor Josh Scott.
Grace is trying to find a new job in her field (accounting) because she quit her prior job when boss made it known sex was part of his expectations for her job performance. She jumped in her car and ended up driving from CA to the Washington State little town of Lucky Harbor. She befriended Mallory and Amy, and the trio became the chocoholics.

To make ends meet, Grace does everything, flower delivery, modeling, book keeping etc. She answers a call from Dr. Josh Scott who needs a dog walker and she walks into a life more chaotic than her own.
Josh's parents died in a car accident and left his younger sister a paraplegic. On top of that, Josh's baby mama left him with their son Toby. Toby got a little dog named Tank who needed a walker, hence Grace's new job.

Of course Toby's nanny quits, Josh's sister Anna couldn't fulfill the responsibilities as she was busy making everyone miserable, so it's Grace to the rescue.

This is the clash of the Girl who won't stop running from her parents expectations and the Guy who is carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders. It got crowded really fast, but nothing like love to strip away the unnecessary things and make people face the music.

I will admit that I liked Amy and the Ranger's story better. I also liked the 3 sister's story better. However, Jill Shalvis tells a great story, with great characters and just engaging you until the end. I like Grace finally making her stand and I like that Josh finally really accepted help. They were just what the other person needed. This series is one of the best CRs out there!

Rating & Review: ★★★★. It was as good as book 1.
This book starts with Aria and Perry reuniting after both had significant changes in their personal circumstances. Aria was being blackmailed to find the Still Blue in exchange for Talon's safety and Perri was now Blood Lord of the Tides, a whole new world of responsibilites.
The dilemma was how to present Aria to the Tides. She was still considered a dweller and/mole and the Tides are still smarting from the news of the experiments. So Perry and Aria decide to hide their relationship, and introduce Aria as "an Ally" in the quest to find the Still Blue.

It was rough for both Aria and Perry to adjust in the camp, and the camp was hostile to Aria. However, Aria had grown as a young lady and as a warrior. She was more confident and decisive. she also had a very tight relationship/friendship with Roar, and that was very key to her ability to get through the tumultous stay at the Tide camp.

We got to know a little bit more about Cinder and we also got to see a little of Liv. I must admit that I wasn't pleased with how the situation with Liv went down at all. But every great story requires a great sacrifice, so I will let the author guide me on that one.

The plot moved at a good pace, lots of action and advancement. I am glad that Perry and Aria finally saw that light and agreed to be open and honest about their relationship. Now the focus should be on escaping the Aether and keeping everyone safe. I look forward to book 3.

After reading the previous book in the series this one was a huge disappointment. My expectations were probably too high and also reading three HR books in such a short time was never good for me.
The book itself was boring and even though we saw more of the gang than in the second book they weren't enough. I liked how the guys were protective of Frannie even when they exaggerated a bit.

Review:

This installment concludes the developmental stage of Sonja Blue's undead life. She's still looking to kill off Morgan, still in love with Palmer and still helping to guard Lethe, the baby seriph Lethe who was the unexpected result of Morgan's genetic engineering experiments. She doesn't know it, but she's given Morgan more than a twisted and scarred face during their last battle. She has taken part of his avatar, the chimera, and left him in love with her.

Not that love is going to stop Morgan from destroying her if he can. He hones his skills and feeds his new obsession by role playing with street prostitutes and drug addicts. Sonja has her own problems - she's destroyed a life by letting the Other loose on an innocent young man. Mentally wounded from the experience, she retreats to the Yucatan, where Palmer and Lethe make their home. Lethe has grown an astonishing amount in the few years she's been alive. Her seriph guardian still keeps watch over her, awaiting the time when Lethe's final transformation will begin. Neither Sonja or Palmer know that Lethe has a special purpose - one that will tear their small family apart.

Each of these novels has been different from the rest. While Sonja's vendetta against Morgan remains the connecting thread between them, there is always a hitch in her plans, a change of direction, and multiple character points of view to keep the reader hooked. This 3rd novel's brings both resolution and new purpose to Sonja's existence.

Another good read in this series. Kat is up to her same tricks - this time she is after the Cleopatra Emerald. But of course, if Kat is involved then its not a simple job. This jewel hasn't been seen in over 30 years, no one since Cleopatra keeps the jewel long, and (the kicker) it is cursed! Can Kat and her gang of thieves help get the emerald back to its rightful owner or has Kat bit off more than she can chew this time? Of course with Kat, she is going to pull out all the stops and in this capper she doesn't fail to please.

Kat and Hale are my two favorite characters - their banter and love/hate (sort of) between them is a great read. The rest of the gang are great too - they add a unique flavor to the story line.

There were a few hit and misses but overall an enjoyable read. I would recommend it to read. Only wish that it wrapped up nicer at the end and that some of the characters (Nick) got more plot time.
