I have started this book today and I am so far really enjoying it. It reminds me of the Hunger Games a bit. I am interested to see where the story goes although I have a good idea of what might happen.

I finished reading this today, I couldn't put it down. I loved this book and I can't wait to read the rest of the series. I was concerned when I started it that I wasn't going to enjoy it. I thought it was going to be similar to other YA dystopian novels and whilst it does have similar plot lines to other books I still really enjoyed it. I'd heard mixed things about the main character America but I really liked her. She was completely unselfish and only thought about her family which I really admired. I loved the relationship between America and Maxon, I liked that she didn't immediately fall for him. I don't like Aspen and I don't want him to be with America. I have a feeling that the love triangle will become more of a plot focus in the next books. I can't wait to see how the rest of the series unfolds.

I knew that Aspen was going to end up being drafted or working as a servant in the house. I called it. It was pretty predictable but I don't mind.

I finished the book, but wrote down my thoughts while reading it and will share those now.

Finished chapter 6 (view spoiler)[This is my first time reading this book. I never had a strong desire to read it, because of the mixed reviews I've seen, but I'm really enjoying it so far.

I knew she was going to be one of the girls selected, because of the title of the book, but I didn't know that she didn't want it or how it worked exactly. If the man who came to her house is correct, that she should never refuse the Prince anything, even though it's not a rule or enforced that's just pathetic. I hate double standards or special treatments for a select few.

It's weird that girls can marry and improve their number, but men can't. But I guess it kind of makes sense, otherwise after several generations you could have nothing but top level people. (hide spoiler)]

Finished chapter 14 (view spoiler)[I like how Maxon is handling everything. He seems so sweet and caring. I love how even though he won the bet with America, he sent her the pants she had wanted if she had won. And that interview he did with Garvil was the best!

America, whether she realizes it or not, would be an excellent match for Maxon. The way she and Maxon easily converse and banter is wonderful, and I think if she allowed herself she could fall in love with him.

It was so sad that Lucy was sold to the palace because someone's parent(s) didn't want them together, because she's a six. It's nice that America treats her maids kindly, as you would a friend, instead of rudely as it sounds like many of the other girls do. That's just one of the things I like about her. I also like that she's not afraid to speak her mind. (hide spoiler)]

I think Olivia is lying and Maxon didn't kiss her, but I'll have to wait and see if that's correct.

It was funny how all the girls wore shades of blue, because that's what America usually wears and the Prince always notices her, but then their plan backfired when she wore red - smart maids she has! I couldn't believe how Celeste behaved, trying to take America's dress and then when she refused to let her have it Celeste rips it. She's very fortunate that America didn't report her on it. Finished the book (view spoiler)[I didn't like how America allowed Aspen to kiss her, because she agreed to not do anything like that while there, but at the same time he is someone she has cared for deeply for a long time.

I almost wonder if the attacks are fake, to see how the girls react under the pressure of them, but then that doesn't make much sense when they broadcast it to the whole country. So there are probably real. If so, I wonder what they are looking for and why they think it's at the palace?

I loved it when America said that her maids weren't going to serve anyone but the Royal family, because the other girls didn't think to bring their own maids with them but left them to fend for themselves.

Finished it at Statbucks and the guy who works there asked me why I was smiling so much and I said it was the power of a book. Hehe.
