Great idea! If I like the 1st book, I always want to finish the whole series!

thanks Rinn, handy to keep track :)

Sorry, can i clarify (might have missed the discussion) - will this be as a third nomination? So as not to alienate new members or people who do not wish to continue with the series? Or are we going with it as one of the normal nominations?

From what I read this won't be in place of a BOTM and it also won't be monthly, I think I read that it was going to be a new book every two months.

Rinn (rinnsohma) | 3456 comments Mod
Oh, there are no real plans! This is just a list so we can keep track of the series we've started, in case anyone wants to do a read-along with the group =)

message 7: by Antonis (new)

Antonis (antonakis) | 62 comments I thought I could just post the book links so people can find them faster if interested. Please tell me if I made a mistake. Here they are:

Bas-Lag book #2: The Scar by China Miéville
Hyperion Cantos book #2: The Fall of Hyperion by Dan Simmons
Gentleman Bastards book #2: Red Seas Under Red Skies by Scott Lynch
Dune Chronicles book #2: Dune Messiah by Frank Herbert
Demon Cycle book #2: The Desert Spear by Peter V. Brett
Ender Quintet book #2: Speaker for the Dead by Orson Scott Card
The Broken Empire book #2: King of Thorns by Mark Lawrence
The Kingkiller Chronicles book #2: The Wise Man's Fear by Patrick Rothfuss

Some of those are series/trilogies that read as a huge novel and must be read in order and some are series of books in a common universe that are more stand-alone-ish and usually self-contained. Not all of those are finished yet (i.e. Gentleman Bastards, Demon Cycle, The Kingkiller Chronicles)

As for the Elantris, is this really an ongoing series?

Oops... I was thinking of Mistborn ;) Nope, it's a standalone. Thanks Antonis!

message 9: by Sinead (new)

Sinead | 49 comments Thanks Antonis, there are quite a few I wish to finish, even the unfinished ones. Think I'll start with the fall of Hyperion as that's the freshest in my mind. I have soooo many to read I think I'll need a time travel machine. Such a pity the Gentleman Bastards series isn't finished :(

Not sure if this is the best place for it (in fact I know it isn't) but I didn't want to make a thread for it, is someone going to make the polls for the February BOTM? Or is a certain date that they are started?

message 19: by Rinn, Captain of the SSV Normandy (new)

Rinn (rinnsohma) | 3456 comments Mod
That was Nic's job for this month, but if the polls aren't up in the next day or two I'll make them :)

I've finally updated this, it had been a while! Should be complete now.

I've also included series where the next book has not yet been published (several coming out next year), for reference and so they can be more easily updated when they do come out.

Usually as soon as nominations close.

Melissa ♥ Dog/Wolf Lover ♥ Martin | 227 comments I keep clicking on polls randomly sometimes I don't miss out on the votes like I did once before.

OK that's what I thought. I was wondering if I missed something. Another group moved their voting off-site one month and I somehow missed out on that.

I think a lot of it Randy is the majority of the mods are super busy right now so it's taking a little longer than usual. It will get up there soon!

OK no worries. There were a couple nominations I liked so I wanted to make sure I didn't miss out on voting. Thanks!

Mark (iamjacksprofile) | 62 comments I'm amused that the top review for July's Fantasy Book of the Month, The Grey Bastards, is by the author of July's Sci-fi Book of the Month.

I'm a huge Mark Lawrence fan, so I'm excited to read both even though he calls Grey Bastards the "filthiest" fantasy book he's ever read and basically Sons of Anarchy with Orcs.

The next books are often nominated but don't always win, particularly if there's a new release nominated. By the time it comes around again people have often read onwards. But, people are free to nominate the next book in a series :)

message 50: by Freya, Dragon Rider (new)

Freya (flamecat) | 1810 comments Mod
Also, nominating new series, can help members find new reading material and series
