Yes, time zone issues can be a little difficult. My team discovered that in the Tower Team last year when we had three captains all spread out. One in PST, one in Croatia and one in Australia.
I am the captain of my Battleship team and my team is again spread out in America, India, Australia so the discussions have taken a little time to work out, but I think we have a plan.

I'm going with the RED cover ... about half-way done. Might even finish today, but more likely tomorrow or Tuesday. It's a little like reading the dictionary (which I used to love to do, by the way).

I started this great mystery series quite a while back with the first one which is Jar City. The main character is Detective Erlander who is a somewhat flawed Reykjavik policeman. I am a big fan of the whole Nordic crime noir and this one was no disappointment.
When a body is discovered in the foundation of an old home the investigation leads Erlander and his team back in time to over 50 years ago when this part of Iceland was being defended against the Nazis by both British and American troops. Talk about a cold case. The most disturbing is the way the skeleton is posed makes it appear the person was buried alive!
I will definitely continue with this excellent series.

Book Number 52, 5, 2 Alternate: 2002

Review: When I started the book I was confused since it has been awhile since I started this series. As I continued with the book I started to remember the first book. Glory is back and things are not quiet for her.
We are introduced to some very interesting things in this book. Like Energy Vamps (EVs). You also have the human Westwood still trying to kill Glory and any other vampire.
I found myself enjoying the book more as I read. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

#5 in series, #2 in series, alternate 2002
I'll read #2 in a series ...

Skinny Dip (Mick Stranahan #2) by Carl Hiaasen - 3***
Audiobook read by Stephen Hoye
When Joey Peronne’s no-good husband throws her overboard she vows revenge. With Carl Hiaasen writing the novel, you know she’ll win in the end but watching how she goes about it is what makes the ride so much fun. This is typical Hiaasen: outlandish situations and inept crooks with a dose of environmental concern. Like his others, this novel is a fast read and entertaining from the first sentence to the last. Stephen Hoye does a fine job narrating the audio version. He has a good pace, and brings this zany cast of characters to life.

Review:
As the Argonaut descended from Achilles, Zander has lived for over 800 years. In all that time, he has exhibited only one weakness: Callia, the love of his life who also betrayed him in the most fundamental of ways. Callia, healer to the King of Argolea, has given up on the life she once dreamed of having with Zander. However, fate has more in store for these seemingly star-crossed lovers because old secrets are about to come to light that may either rekindle the love and passion they felt so long ago, or will destroy them once and for all.
Zander and Callia’s second chances romance has tremendous potential. Unfortunately, their emotional connection is completely undermined by the angst, distrust and inability to communicate that characterizes their relationship. They are constantly at odds with one another even after the lies that separated them are revealed, and it is difficult to appreciate them either as individuals or as a couple. Callia, in particular, is a problematic heroine as the choices she made both in the past and in the present are completely incomprehensible (view spoiler)
In contrast, the secondary characters are far more interesting. The curious animosity between Isadora and Demetrius, the intriguing mystery that surrounds Orpheus’s true nature, and the compelling secrets behind Nick’s scarred facade all indicate that there are some exciting things to come.
Moreover, the developments in the ongoing story arc are engrossing. The elements and symbolism of Greek mythology together with the various conflicts (i.e., Atalanta vs. the Argonauts, the Argolean monarchy vs. the council, and the Argoleans vs. Misos) establish a complex and captivating world that I am eager to learn more about.
In sum, Entwined is a satisfying read despite its shortcomings and I am looking forward to Isadora and Demetrius’s upcoming showdown.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

Underworld Detection Agency #2
read 3/20/14 - 3.5 stars
Sophie works for a hidden agency that deals with demons, vampires, trolls, etc. who want to live among the humans. In the last book, she got partnered up with a fallen angel working as a police detective. In this book, she decides she will help him try to find the object he is looking for since it will give her more time with him. In the meantime, she gets fired from her job for being human when new management is brought in. There is a nice twist to what the object is and how the bad side figures it out long before the good side.

That series keeps getting recommended to me, but I just never seem to get to it. A new Kristina Ohlsson, The Disappeared: A Novel, just came in at my library so that will be next up on my Scandinavian mystery list.

We finally got the 4th book in the Department Q series by Adler-Olsen too so I will be reading that one soon too.

Anyway I'm in a scramble to finish a book that does work. I can't believe I did that.

Reykjavik Murder Mysteries
1. Jar City (2004)
aka Tainted Blood
2. Silence of the Grave (2005)
3. Voices (2006)
4. The Draining Lake (2007)
5. Arctic Chill (2008)
6. Hypothermia (2009)
7. Outrage (2011)
8. Black Skies (2012)
9. Strange Shores (2013)
10. Reykjavik Nights (2014)
I think maybe gr goes by translation date instead of publishing date. If you were to click on the silence of the grave gr link and then click on the Reykjavik mystery link you would see that silence is the 2nd one after Jar city in the gr list as well but for some reason it is listed as # 4 on the link. I'm a gr librarian and I couldn't figure out how to correct the gr listing of it being #4. I thought it was too confusing for you to try and investigate so I'll try to get another book read if possible.

I've had a few days of being a sicky this week and it is REALLY getting old. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.

Finished 3/22 ★★★★ Standalone book

This was a little different book from Lisa Scottoline. The main story is about a single mother raising a little adopted boy who sees a paper with a "have you seen this child" photo on it that looks exactly like her adopted son. As an investigative reporter she is determined to find out the truth despite the fact that she might end up losing her son. The story gets pretty convoluted and very dangerous and personal.

#6 in series, stand alone, alternate Title P
I'll read a standalone (which also fits the alternate title P)

Paper Valentine by Brenna Yovanoff – 2.5**
This is a YA paranormal / romance / mystery. The serial killer plot was pretty interesting. The teen romance was pretty interesting. The best friend ghost, not so much. I think Yovanoff couldn’t decide on a genre; is it a paranormal book? A romance? A mystery? I did like Hannah, and really loved her little sister Ariel. If I were my 13-year-old niece, I’d probably rate this higher, but for me it’s just a little below average.

standalone
read 3/24/14 - 3 stars
This was a different book. The main character is waiting for her execution date and tells her life story to the priest assigned to get her to repent of her crime. At times it is hard to realize when the book switches from past to present. I liked the idea of the story, but the writing style could be better.

#6 in series, standalone, alternate P
I'll be reading an alternate:

Review: I know I need to read more of the Stephanie Plum novels. I really enjoyed this book. I found myself laughing at the dialog between Lula, Connie, Diesel and Stephanie.
Plum Lucky takes place around St. Patty's day. Stephanie's grandmother goes missing after she finds a duffelbag filled with money. Stephanie's mother is worried and sends her daughter out to find her.
She finds her in Atlantic City and that is when the fun begins. Stephanie, Lula, Diesel and Connie work together to rescue grandmom after she is kidnapped in Atlantic City. This is a fast pace story and easily read in a day.
