Madison Maggert Mrs. Benjamin Honors Language Arts: 1st Period: Good Reads Assignment February 3, 2014 Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks In chapter 3 of Safe Haven, Josh was starting to drown in the lake. His dad, Alex, ran out of the store and jumped in the lake hoping his son was still alive. This part made me think a lot because I imagine being a mom one day and seeing my sons life flash before his eyes would be devastating. A section in the book that I especially liked was on page 101. " Giving voice to the truth of her past meant opening the door to her future." I really liked this part of the book because she had to let Alex know about her past otherwise she would not have been able to have a different future. Also, Alex could have gotten a different idea when it is not what it looks like. The character I most admire throughout this book is Katie. She is such a strong hearted, pretty, nice, women who just wanted to do what was the best for her. "While love can hurt, love can also heal."(page 227)This shows that Katie was hurt from her past relationship with Kevin. She was beat, and not treated the way she deserved. Although she was hurt she got healed with her relationship with Alex. But, she will always remember that moment in her life with Kevin and how she was traumatized. On page 35 it says, "Because in the end, and no matter how hard it is, acceptance helps people move on with the rest of their lives." This shows that without accepting what happened in the past, Katie would not been able to have a relationship with Alex. Sparks, Nicholas. Safe Haven. New York: Grand Central Pub., 2010. Print.
